When we reviewed Burnout Paradise, we touted it as "the freshest racing experience in a long time." Things haven't changed over the past few months - no racing title has revitalized the genre in the way that Paradise has.
It was just announced on the official Burnout forums that downloadable content will be coming to Paradise. We'll be seeing several new cars available for purchase at the PlayStation Store soon.
Far more tantalizing however is the mention of downloadable islands which will arrive in the form of free updates. That's correct, no money involved.
"This bridge leads to what we reveal today to be the first in a series of islands adding to Paradise City," commented Criterion Games' Alex W. "And one more thing, the islands will all be FREE."
He goes on to tout the each island will offer "a different type of gameplay." Whether this means different from each other or different than the standard Paradise gameplay isn't clear, but we're certainly intrigued with either idea. We'll have more details for you on Burnout Paradise's free DLC soon.

Nice! More free downloable content!!! I liked the Motorstorm parts which were for free! A shame that more content isn't like this.
Yeah! I love the word "Free".
Astounding game made even better!
Woot! Love burnout and with free stuff i love it even more!
He77 I am getting the game just for the crashes really... But I will download the the new map's. And why is HE77 a banned word???
FREE, thats my favourite price
free is good! wish some other companies would go that route,, AHHHHHHHHHHSSSSSSSSSSSSSUUUUWARHAWK!
See!! This is the kind of stuff that makes 360 so lame!!
Free stuff!!! on 360 you need to buy downloadable content i think..
Well ok not all content are free on PSN but most of it is :)
Comon 360 give everything you have Sony will still ki*ck your green butt!!!
OOOH! OOH! YAY!!!
Actually when i heard island in a racing game I instantly thought of Track Mania Sunrise... where you do those in sane, gravity defying jumps and loops and stuff! I wonder if this "Different type of game play" is close to that?
psn id: gingo.... this is amazing, this has pushed criterion upto my third favourite devellper behind Naught Dog and Insomniac, can't believe they would pass up making money to release the islands for free shows that it certainly wasn't EA's decision
FREE!? That's great
Different type of gameplay will probably mean different designs made for specific types of races.

And it's about damn time a dev came out with free content. Even after a few years, new games still cost $60 and we pay for extra content? I think not. Especially all those expensive songs on every Thursday update. I'd GLADLY pay for DLC like new islands but no way should a song cost $2. Try $0.50, profit-bastards.
i love free stuff :)
This is good cause I havent played Burnout in a minute. Devil May Cry 4, MLB the Show 08 and other reason's.. But free is good any day of the week..
Free! OMG they should do this for all games, jk, then they wouldn't make an extra buck after the game has sold
Just a couple of hours ago,i played Burnout Dominator for the psp,if this game is anything to be judged by that, then this will be nothing short of spectacular.
paradise is already an excellent game but with this it's even better, thank's criterion for showing that i wasn't wrong about buying your game, can't wait to download does islands
The best racing game that is out there... now it just keep on getting better. send me to Paradise Burnout
