Here at the Game Developer’s Conference in beautiful San Francisco, California, Chris Eden, Senior Developer Relations Account Manager at SCEA detailed just how far PSN has come since it launched in November 2006 and the many things that can be accessed through PSN from a business and consumer perspective.
The whole presentation outlined what is in store for the future of PSN such as independent developers creating content for the service, which we will cover in a separate feature later on. Currently there are over 2.8 million people in North America that have a PSN account, with 46 million downloads worldwide since its launch. These are staggering stats that are only determined to grow within the coming months as the PlayStation 3 sees what is going to be its best year yet.
Why is the PSN so important to Sony? Well the PlayStation Network is Sony’s definitive answer to Microsoft’s Xbox Live network. Furthermore, the PlayStation Store (PSN Store) is in direct competition with Microsoft’s Xbox Live Store where videogame demos, trailers, and other extra content can be purchased.
Please stay tuned as we have more to cover on PSN and GDC in general.

sweet, i hope we get content tomorrow on the psn. i never really thought about it, but all we had for ps2 was the ability to play games or play a cd or dvd. the ps3 has like a butload of extra features compared to that, not even including the psn. i remeber getting demos on a demo disc lol.

Even though PS store has a basic look, it has IMO a better layout than XBL. Just wait til Home comes out.

To user Link 64: In terms of games, Sony has it's games lined up for this year and we all know what to expect. PS3 developers are too busy creating PS3 games to be bothered with a smaller event such as GDC. GDC isn't the place for announcing new video games or showing off new video games either, that's what E3 is specifically for. Plus, developers for PS3 games don't have the time to waste at GDC when they are hard at work on PS3 exclusives and wrapping up development. Sony will take your breath away at E3 2008 and that's a promise.
Anyways, in response to this article, it's good news to hear that the PSN is growing. Even though I have my PS3 registered on the PSN and I have a PSN account, I don't play games online. I've never been an online gamer... I've always been a single player/campaign/story mode kind of gamer.

I know the EU store suffer from lack of content....
