The video released by Geomeric to the public at GDC 2008 has given gamers a look into an entirely new world of lighting through radiosity. The video below has a run time of roughly 2:40 and will give you an in-depth look at how radiosity can bring an entirely new emotion and feel to certain scenes. According to Geomeric, this new Enlighten engine is easily applicable for developers and can certainly bring out the best in emotional driven games like Resident Evil or an epic role-playing game.

Without much else to say, here is the video in all its glory.

    I would like if thise was used in online games like COD4. Depending on which country you are located in and the time of the day the lightning is the same in the game as in reality.

    RTFA! :-) This is a lighting solution designed to be incorporated into the main engine and not an engine by itself.

    @14 agreed

    If you noticed though, not alot was going on. Basically a girl walking around some cave and palace areas. Thats all good for Tomb raider, but in games like COD4, there might be a problem Mainly with the online play with games like ground war. Very cool engine though, and I'm excited to see what developers will do with it.

    What I liked most was that when light from the sun shon on the building it wasn't just bright where the light hits like in every game so far. The whole place started to get brighter and when the sun went down, the place slowly got darker. So instead of all the shadows being the same dark black, with this tool there are variety of soft and sark shadows. Just like in the real world, light travels and bounces of objects and it seemed it does in this new engine.
