Killzone 2 developer Guerrilla Games has stated with confidence that it believes the highly anticipated First Person Shooter has lived up to the expectations of eager fans since the game debuted in trailer form at E3 2005.
"The level of anticipation for the 2005 trailer meant that people expected the biggest thing ever to materialize, and what we’ve shown so far, at last year’s E3 and today means that we’re living up to the expectation," commented Steven Ter Heide, Killzone 2’s senior producer.
Graphically, Killzone 2 has surpassed anything delivered on a console yet, with lifelike animations, facial expressions, and spectacular lighting and smoke effects. This combined with gameplay mechanics such as the "lean and peek" system, Killzone 2 looks set to deliver more than just a rudimentary FPS experience.

The firm also acknowledges the comparisons observed between Infinity Ward’s highly successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and virtually every new FPS on the market, though remains confident the studio can step up a gear when Killzone 2 hits shelves in February 2009.
"I’m not going to sit here and talk about the competition," said Guerrilla Games' Hermen Hulst. "COD is a game that virtually everybody in the office has played through and completed. We know where our game stands, and we’re up for it, definitely."
With over eight months left for development, Guerilla Games has plenty of time to ensure the title lives up to expectations when it releases exclusively for the PS3 early next year.
Stay tuned to PSU.com for more information as Sony reveals more on the title later this year.

sweet! i gone start the next year with a really good system seller
1st
I hope it does live up to expectations, but my personal expectations aren't that high at the moment.
beta?
That is a bold claim, a bold claim indeed. GG can't afford to mess this one up after reading the hype surrounding the 1st one and finding out it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
Liberation was fantastic so I know the company has the capacity to produce a quality Killzone game.
After all the money, development time that has been injected to this, it could be quite a major blow for PS3 if it fails to achieve. It needs some decent exclusive games... which reminds me only 3 more days for a certain game to be released .
The video footage looks good so far but thats not the potential problem for me .. its how good the gameplay is. For me Haze suffered a similar fate that looked excellent in its alpha and beta builds and looked fun to play but when the final product was released it was appaling.
Im not saying this is going to be rubbish but as much as I enjoy my PS3, Im very cautious to games being hyped, after things like Haze and ports of games coming off worse.
cesar sweet picture heh. Im so pumpede for this game screw cod4 and 5 and every other shooter, i roll with killzone 2 and as of right now killzone 2 only..
I... fail to see where Guerilla Games stated they're "Taking on COD". They said, "we know where our games stands, and we're up for it", aren't they simply praising themselves? Well in any case, it shouldn't be too hard to beat COD4. Then again, maybe I'm just down-playing the significance of COD4.
There has been a lot of hype and expectation for this game, much like there was for Haze, and we all know how disappointing Haze turned out in the end..... so I can only hope and pray Killzone2 can deliver!
Do they think theyll get better sales than COD4 or jst a better ggame.
because i was gonna say, the sales of a single platform came cant be better than a multi-platform game really can they? unless alot better, nd COD4 is very very good.
psn id: gingo.... they must be quite confident of going up against cod4 as that game will take an exceptionally brillient game to beat it
Looks great looking forward to it @ least weve got mgs4,socom & res2 to keep us entertained till then
I must admit the first Killzone was good, In fact I like it alot, But when COD4 came out I was blown away and now i keep comparing every shooter game to COD4. Thats one bad about COD4, the game is so good that any other shooter game i play i keep comparing the level of COD4 and so far no shooter game comes close except Resistance. The Game developers has to step up and put out a good product not only in story mode but in online also.
I hope they don't follow the same path of deception as haze, kill zone looks really good, hope the gameplay is as good as the graphiques!
wow, this better be good.. it will be kinda depressing if not..
I really wish developers would stop hyping these games, all it does is make it worse in the end. it gets your expectations extremely high, only to be let down because the game didnt live up to such a high standard. I think this game will be good, but just not as good as some were led to believe and that will ruin their experiance with KZ2.
i hope one level just features an explosion of color. lol. like literally a ...... rainbow of blood haha. I'm just getting so sick of all the gray in good games, lately. I'm lookin at you MGS 4 and resistance. You have a color pallet. Use it, if not for just one level.
yaaaaaaaaaay! finally a game that'll snatch that c0CkY COD off the high throne! lol
the problem is that if the developers dont "hype" up a game people wont know about it. but if they "hype" it up alot then we expect too much and start comparing it to COD4 (regissreg). that's the worse you can do, just judge the game on your expectation, not on what other people say or what other games have to offer. i personally im really hoping this game is good, for the reason being that when they showed this at E3 people said this couldnt be acheived on a console and now BOOM in ya face
we all know what happend when they said that about killzone 1 "the halo killer" instead killzone killed itself with part 1 [seeing is believing] for now its just promises and dreams
Well....after being in development for the last 20 yrs(JUST KIDDING) it should be ready to take on MGS4, GeoW, Bruce lee, Chuck Norris, Mike Tyson and.....you guys get the point. lol I'M PUMED!!!!!
I hope this is better then COD4. This is in development for almost 4 years, and it is coming out more then 1 year after COD4. So it better be better then COD4.
@gradyj08 go to h3ll with that beta lol (just kidding)
this will be 100% surpass that cod4 but when KZ2 arrives in 09 and what other games will arrive any other FPS titles?
anyway it's still too far but happfully they shown some things but still...far...
can't wait :D
Why are they trying to take on a game that will be over a year old when it releases? Maybe they should think about CoD5 or the Halo prequel hitting this fall.
After HAZE's rave reviews, this should do something to keep the internet paprazzi from totally burning the PS3.
the lack of faith for this game is kind of a shocker. i think this game will be brilliant.
I'm totally excited for Killzone 2 and I have no doubts whatsoever in this game.
I honestly don't know why a lot of people are already calling Killzone 2 a failure just because the first game didn't live up to everyone's expectations. I have the first Killzone game and love it, but yes, the game did have it's technical difficulties and framerate issues that took away from the game and that's really it. The A.I. in Killzone on the PS2 were pretty decent to me, I don't know why a lot of reviewers were bashing the first Killzone becase of A.I.
I expect Killzone 2 to be one of the best First Person Shooters of this Decade. Graphically Killzone 2 has already surpassed Call of Duty 4, so the only thing Guerrilla needs to do is make sure that the Online Multiplayer is top notch and that the A.I. and everything else in the game is as perfect as it can be and if they accomplish that, then Killzone 2 will be set to be a COD4 killer.
PSN ID: tatti
Hope its not an epic faliure.
Cuz this and mgs4 are the only games i am lookin forward to the most.
Well I can tell you one thing....I will not be buying another FPS unless it can hold a candle to COD4 (if not best it). Right now R2 and KZ2 are the only FPS I am looking forward to.....so I can only pray that they are up to par with COD4.
I was never hyped for Haze so I'm yet to be disappointed by an exclusive PS3 shooter. I have a feeling KZ will deliver in a spectacular way. It looks great from all the videos I've seen.
where did they say "we are taking COD4 on" in there dang Justin to be a fellow Justin with such misleading titles like that lol
@ironflag im guessing you are talking about the media as GG never said anything of killzone ever being a halo killer
If Killzone 2 surpasses Call Of Duty 4, then you can see straight ten out of ten scores for the game!
Public BETA!!!!!
Public BETA!!!!!
Public BETA!!!!!
@infernoreaper COD4 is better than COD5 will ever be because Treyarch is making 5. and Halo games are all the same exact thing pretty much and COD4 beats out any Halo game in a heartbeat.... I am hoping Killzone 2 will silence people who say "well 1 sucked so 2 is going to suck too"
Sony is going to make sure it is a hit, thats the reason the put guerrila games on there team.
killzone 2 is gonna destroy cod4, it is coming out almost 2 years later lol
I don't know which original Killzone you guys played but that game rocked...IMO! A few bugs yes but still Rocked! Anyway Killzone2 can't miss, definitely on a great track to being an Awesome game at the very least.
8 months?? and at 8 months will it be delayed another 8 months and have them say " we still have 8 months to make it look better"??? release the game already.
All the hypo marketing around games these days and most end up being totally crapola... Where as good games like Bioshock, Portal, COD4 and Mass Effect just quietly appear on the scene and blow everyone away. It seems the quiet achievers are the ones worth buying and the heavily talked up titles like Haze are best left on the shelf. I hope that Killzone 2 is an exception to this rule and is actually worth all that hot air they have pumped out todate.
