Hefty price follows hefty size

PSP users can finally rejoice after such limited standards. No longer will we feel the need to struggle to fit everything into our tiny pro duos. With Sony’s latest announcement at CES, the PSP is about to receive a 16GB version of the Pro Duo.
The only downfall to this steep increase in storage space, is the steep increase in storage space it’ll create in your pockets. This neat little stick of memory goodness is going to hit stores in March and retail at a whopping $300.

While some of us will have to watch our friends purchase these pricey cards, we’ll just have to wait in jealousy as the price drops through time.

16gb is alot and enough for storage of movies and mp3s. And if it was just 8gb of space for me it wouldnt be much but 16gb is reasonable and also its cool how sony are not ignoring the psp and actually updating and upgrading it more and more... who knows whatll be next "Home" for psp.

lol. if i had 300 bucks i would spend it on 2 other games that are coming out GT5 and MGS4 and not a memory stick for 300 bucks. i don't play my psp that much to do that.

The price is steep, but this will be a huge move in year. You now have potentially the best media device on the planet... Not only can you hold about 2,000 songs and 10 movies, but you can also call people on it who have skype, play real video games on it, and surf the net. It puts the iPhone to shame, IMO.

Just think of it as a 16gb hard drive that's been shrunken down to a postage stamp. That puts the high cost of portable media into perspective. Besides, each time Sony introduces larger capacities, the smaller ones drop in price. ;)

Pretec released 8GB SD card two years ago and 16 & 32GB SD cards where announced by Pretec & Kingston some 6 months ago.... Catch up!
Why cant they just use SD memory - it's Industry Standard, its faster, more reliable and significantly cheaper. Speeds of 150X (22.5MB/s) have been available for SD memory since 2004 - whereas Memory Stick crawls along.... even Memory Stick Pro Extreme and Memory Stick Ultra Mark 2 can only sustain Write Xfers of 10MB/s....... Memory Stick = Obsolete, and $300 = Rip Off!

Is that necessary? Two 8GBs cost me about US$100.
Might as well buy a PS3 for that price.
