(continued from previous page) ...you’ll always have some sort of competition taking place if you need an extra incentive to let loose and throw down.
One of the things we noticed was that this title is definitely a living room game. Sometimes in a smaller bedroom the game may not have as much appeal as you won’t have full flexibility to truly utilize the games features. This is also one of the only downfalls, because if you’re a younger kid your parents may not want you hooking up your console in the living room. Don’t worry though, High Velocity Bowling is such a family oriented game, that we’re sure you’d be able to convince them to not only allow it, but for them to take part in enjoying it with you.
The gameplay mechanics are also spot-on. The motion sensor of the controller couldn’t be any more accurate than it already is. The system will pickup and read everything it’s supposed to without you having to over-exaggerate the motions with your arm. This also leads to a very small learning curve if any at all. The game is pretty straight forward. The R2/L2 triggers create spin on the ball and the game even allows you to switch the strong hand up for those lefties out there.
One of the cooler in-game functions is the ability to check the oil slick on the lanes. They’ll show you where the floor is slick and where it may be dry for a better shot overall. This was actually an impressive feature as we didn’t expect it to pop up as it did.
Overall High Velocity Bowling is an incredible experience and a great family-oriented title. You’ll find yourself playing it over and over due to its high replayability. Despite not giving you any online options, it doesn’t hurt this interactive title whatsoever. Just throw down the change for it right now, the title is definitely a must buy.

the high review still wont tempt me enough to buy this game i just dont find virtual bowling fun ...maybe its just me :S
F sake!!! abit late for reviews PSU get ur act together!!!
i have the game while its an ok game i dont think its a 8 maybe a 6.5 or 7 for a psn game and they should've at least added online play
psn id J08hawks
lol better late than never, and good on DaveW for putting up reviews for things that have been overlooked by the other writers. EU doesn't even have a lot of the titles that he has reviewed yet.
I heard this wasnt too flash at all.. and no online play sucks.. we should be able to vs each other.
I don't think "late" reviews are bad, in fact they are better than a person under pressure to put a review out a week after receiving the game on their desk and trying to blaze through it just before a game comes out. Games are not movies or music albums. They are an interactive media that takes time to really enjoy because the game has so much to it....unless, of course, the game flat out sucks...
not sure if anyone realizes this,
but you can play music from your hdd in game.
loading screens and all.
that made the game for me.
HVB is a decent game for the money. I like the fact that my girlfriend was able to quickly get up to speed with the game and even beat me (and I got a reward for that!). I only play when friends come over. The game would have been better by allowing user created bowlers and a few more game modes with 4 players. Definite part game. If you don't have any friends, then you're better off keeping your change.
great game, i love it
Ive been waiting for this darnd game ever since it was advertised so how on earth is it that everyone seems to be playing it and ive not seen it anywere? Im in the UK. whats going on??????
Im from Australia and seen nothing at all on PSN, come on release it already.
psn id: gingo.... hope this game comes out in Europe soon, cant wait to play this and see if it really is better than wii bowling
the game is really fun and has good graphics and the characters are so Unique and funny, and makes you use your ps3 controller like never before, like ur really holding a bowling ball(it makes Wii Bowling look stupid), so i think that for the price it's a must buy !!
@Jono-PK: Nevermind just the delays on the PSN games for the EU store, try comparing the ridiculous pricing!!! It's not as if they come in a box or gets shipped/delivered to other regions...they're just virtual games that does NOT "physically" exist in the world!!!
Such an annoying RIP-OFF!!! NO JUSTIFICATION WHATSOEVER!!!!
May 17th 2007 High Velocity Bowling coming to PSN ........ January 16th 2008 Still no High Velocity Bowling in the EU/UK PSN ...... if its a virtual game why cant it be virtually on all the PS Networks????? the PS 3 Rocks but the PSN really has me scratching my head
I agree with DaveW that HVB is an awesome party game, but for a stand-alone experience, there needed to be a lot more content (and not the 'but a new character for $1' either). I'd give it an 8 just for the fact that the motion sensing in HVB is probably one of the best out of all the PS3 games (PSN and retail).
Hey DaveW did you buy this game,or was it a review piece(if they do that with downloadable games)
Got it last week and still playing the single player mode. Looks great on 1080p to.....
the game is amazing compared to the wii bowl. Nice to know the ps3 can do the exact same motion sensor tech that the wii does. Without even trying. Just shows you how shallow the wii really is.
