Hirai stresses importance of games on PS3

Posted on October 15th, 2008 at 05:32 EDT

President of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCEI) Kazuo Hirai has again reiterated the importance of software on PlayStation 3, stating it is the primary focus of the console.

Speaking with NB Online, Hirai commented, “The thing that I did when I took over last year was to boast the appeal of games themselves.”

“The main premise of the PS3 is video games. That’s the absolutely most important thing that we cannot lose sight of.”

Hirai further added that by shifting its primary focus to games, the company can successfully expand its position within the market place.

“We cannot allow Nintendo run off alone,” he concluded.

sony's first part titles should lead the way first. other developers will follow. other developers are lazy(personal opinion plz dont burn me) and think the ps3 is still too hard to code for(excluding those like Konami and others).....if sony was to make more games(i now they've been busy lately) and help othe dev's with thier work ps3 momentum would become unstoppable. much like with uncharted where all these companies got to gether and helped a bit(its says thanks to those companies in the credits. though i cant remember them right now). however i like the wii and i dont mind it dominating the market hehe...that doent mean i own one. i personally think its in its own market, the casual market. :)

A bit late to figure that out now - Doh!

I always thought "Play"station was about Playing games but this noob has spent the past two years trying to convince us that it's not. Now that Nintendo & MS are streets ahead on the gaming front, he's changing the story. Well its a bit late after half the Playstation franchises have jumped ship on their own accord or have been paid off - He still missing the point that to play games you actually need to have some software... Instead of making nothing statements to the press - why doesnt he actually do something about it, - Like whip out the cheque book and go buy some studios and franchises back.

All I can say is "actions are louder than words", if I brought a ps3 it's mainly to play games! But that doesn't mean that i don't want my ps3 to do more!

psn id: gingo.... the ps3 has the best exclusive games at the moment and coming out in the future so i think the software is up to par its just up to sony to decide whether a price cut is needed or not

I know you guys say that it's a game console and that games should be the primairy focus...

But i bought a PS3 cause sony was profiling it as a multimedia game console. I think they should keep focus on both cause this way they 'll keep attracting more casual gamers....

well your abit late to the party ,day1 you should of known this and u could of backed it up by buying take two when EA tried to get there mutli platform hands them, could of bought capcom when they took billy`s money to make re5 multi plat, could of n should stopped square making ff13 go to billy and his 360lovers when sony are share holders in square.i still think the biggest mistake was letting ff13 go,its  tried n tested guaranteed massive seller and u let it go. the gaming division is the only money making part of sony and there letting it go.it was on the news sony are a takeover target now so if they dont buck up sony wont be around for long.hint hint buy capcom,square,take-two and you``ve won this n next console war

Kazuo Hirai i think now he need to shut the he!! up now.  games should have been the objection from start half of Playstation history went multiplat this year alone. once BluRay killed of Hd dvds the focuse for PS3 should have been games. not to keep pushing that PS3 is a BluRay player. as i see it bring back Phil he had a clue of what is going on PS3 would have crush 360 by now.

When I red this out I couldn't stop thinking on Home. Over the past year I got the impression that all of Sony efforts were oriented on making Home a stunning success and letting tittle developments completely aside... It looked like they've forgotten that "Home" is no more than a tool to be used by those who love GAMES. I'd rather have a text based dashboard and tons of games than a wonderful "home" and just a couple tittles... Even on E3, there was a tremendous focus on home. Since them, it seems that Sony woke up for what PS3 was lacking the most, new outstanding 1st party tittles to come. Hirai statements is really great and makes me believe that Sony will be back on track really soon.
