Insomniac: Ratchet and Clank only possible on PS3

The unique and superior power of the PlayStation3 has proved decisive in the development of Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction; with Insomniac Games claiming even the Xbox 360 wouldn't have coped with the demands of the game.

The game demands a lot from the console in terms of visuals and space required on the Blu-Ray disc.

This has led to Insomniac claiming that without the Blu-Ray drive, and the power of the PS3, the game simply couldn't have been done.

And despite having just released the game, they have revealed that they are already working on new content to please PS3 gamers further.

    Yeah Insomniac are truely great.. they've created so many cool and unique franchises for all of the PS systems. I'm definately gonna buy R&C when its released here in Oz and of course Resistance was a hit too! Great to see em praising the PS3.

    If you own a PS3 you NEED to play this game.  It's replayability is actually quite better than I had thought when playing the demo.  I recommend this title for every PS3 owner's library... right along side Resistance, the other GREAT PS3 game.

    A new game for the ps3, come on resistance sequal.  Have insomniac made one game for the xbox 360 yet, with the way Insomniac are praising the ps3, its like sony secretly bought them or made some kind of deal with them without letting anyone find out.

    Wait a minute.  I thought the PS3 and the Xbox 360 were pretty much on the same level in terms of sheer power?  The only advantage I see is Blu-ray; and it seems few people care about having to switch discs.

    I agree with mlgacc, this demo was really boring, i mean the graphics were good, but it's one of the types of games that were only fun when I was like 10 years old.

    Another advantage Jared is the standard internal HDD. allows for gaming with ZERO loadtimes. And switching discs doesn't work for sandbox type games like assasins creed and grand theft auto 4.

    Everyone should know that you can expect more out of a game well developed for the PS3. Games that get multi-platform and are mainly created for 360 are actually not using what the PS3 has to offer.

    PS3 > 360 > Wii. Wii is least powerful and has worst graphics out of the three. 360 has a good bit more power/graphics than the Wii. PS3 has the most power and incredible graphics. If you like eye-candy then you can't go wrong with getting a PS3, and i'm one of those gamers who want the best graphics first on the list.

    ahh good al crash bandicoot and spyro the dragon days although when i go back to play the orginal crash now all i find is frustration how could i ahve liked that game well i only could get to the end of the first island before if froze becuase of a massive scratch but i loved spyro never relly played rachet n clank or jack n dexter much although i did finsh the first jack and dextder before it got weird with all this stuff about crimlas and being on the run in the game i liked it when you were jsut thrown on some random island into some weird story line where stuff didnt have to make sense... but relly guys i think graphcis  wise we have only seen the tip of the iceburg in next gen gamming its the ps3 can do so much more we jsut aint seeing it yet DEVLOPERS LET GO OF THE 360 IF YOU DRAG THE SPACE ISSUES ON TOO LONG EVERNTURLY YOU WILL RUIN YOUR SLEVES WHEN CONSUMERS WON TAKE THAT KIND OF THIGN ANY MORE

    PS: its sad to say from every hting iv seen ps3 graphics wise is not meant to be quite on the same lvl as 360 i had the same opion as you get the best even at a high price cas i wanted the best games not the second rate ones but the thing about the ps3 is even though it is rpresnting space restrictions on its blue ray discs and there have to be cut downs these cut downs dont nearly match those that ahve to be made on the 360s dvds the sad AND EXTREMLY anoying thing is that all the big market games are being made to fit on the 360 and the space on the blue rays is being ignored FOR GOD SAKE MICROSOFT YOU CANT RUIN ALL CONSOLE GAMES JUST CAS YOUR CONSOLE ISNT UP TO STANDARD GRRRR

    To those that were bored by the demo, I was with you.  However, it has been hard to put down since Gamefly delivered. I had never played a R&C but I'm hooked.  Give it a rent you might be suprised enought to own.

    @Jared

    PS3 and 360 are not close at all to being equal.  For some current developement techniques they are.  The bottom line is that the PS3 is far superior to the 360.  The proof is in the game itself when it comes to R&C.

    Yes the Cell Processer, the most advanced processer out on any console along with the blue ray disk can do so many amazing things that no other console can even match.

    the demo and the actual game are like night and day. You can't judge a book by its cover, I suggest anyone who hasn't played the full game to buy or rent, and then you'll see just how fanflippingtastic this game truly is. R&C truly shows the power of the ps3 and is on another level from anything available on other consoles.

    @Jared

    Wait a minute, I guess you're wrong. In all senses. Not only is the cell much more powerful than the 360's processor, but Blu ray is required for this kind of thing. I know Ratchet and Clank didn't use a 50Gb disk, but others do. And no developer ever has or ever will release as 7 or so DVDs to get to 50Gb. It would be development suicide. So it's not just about switching out DVDs. You can switch DVDs with an RPG, but with any other kind of game, it  just doesen't work. And when we get 4 layered blu ray disks that hold 100Gb, developers SURELY aren't going to go with 14 DVDs. And don't tell me it's unnecessary. The developer of MGS4 said they were having a hard time fitting it on 50Gb. So Stfu, mate, learn your facts before you come spouting off on these comments.

    I agree with Origin,people don't think they would mind switching disks because they haven't had to.I remember when laser disk's came out and when you would watch a movie and half way through you would have to get up and turn the disk over,that crap was annoying then and it would be annoying now

    I see a lot of devs saying stuff like this now, but most of them are devs who specifically worked on PS3. They never even developed a game for the 360, so how would they know? This comment would be much more valid if Insomniac tried to develop on 360 and just gave up midway through. If they had initially announced the game as multiplatform and then dropped the 360 version because the hardware wasn't up to snuff then maybe these comments would be valid. But Insomniac has never developed for the 360 so I think it's rather foolish of them to claim that the 360 can't handle the game when THEY DON'T KNOW.

    As a ps fan I am trilled by this comments. I am very pleased with the work Insomniac has done so far on the ps3. I have always known that blu ray will be a tremendous advantage for the ps3, since next gen games a becoming more and more demanding in terms of data storage capacity. Nevertheless I will like to hear this same comment from a studio like Bungie which recently cut ties with Microsft.When I get such a comment from them then I will be very comfortable.
