Killzone 2 should meet target movie

With the latest Surfer Girl rumors preaching that Killzone 2 seems to be heading for mediocrity, if that, we’re sure gamers are starting to question the validity of that claim. A Killzone 2 developer from Guerilla Games has caused a stir on their forums by finally getting around to answering questions posed to him from members.

According to EON in regards to the look and presentation of the game in its current state compared to that of which we saw at E3 2005, he had this to say, “I think there are certain things in the 2005 target movie that are easy to do in a movie but rather harder to do in a game. In general I'd say that we exceeded it in certain areas and either met or came damn close to meeting the rest of it.”

Other concerns that gamers have had is with the fact that Guerilla has been given around $60 million dollars of funding to work with, yet hasn’t been able to produce much to the public in the span of the 3 years they’ve been working on this title. With Insomniac working with limited developers and a smaller budget, they’ve been known to display their titles in quick succession. Due Insomniac’s ability to do this, you’d wonder if the Sony family is as close knit as you’d think. EON touched on this subject as well, clarifying the cooperation to a certain point inside the family.

“Well, I can't really spill the beans on this without talking about specifics, I'm afraid. Suffice it to say that there is a definite spirit of cooperation between studios within the Sony family. We help each other out to achieve our goals and to get the very best out of the PS3's architecture.” He followed this up by discussing how their relations with SCEA and SCEE are doing, “I could give you a long spiel about Corporate strategy and our position within the Sony Family, but it's easiest to say that we are lucky enough to work with both SCEE and SCEA closely. We have cordial relations with SCEJ too.”

EON also touched base a bit in regards to HOME and possible Killzone 2 implementation. He couldn’t go into specifics, of course, however, he did mention that the development team is very excited about the possibilities that this option could potentially bring.

He failed to touch on Surfer Girl’s comments directly and pretty much side-stepped it. So there is no way to confirm if there is truth to that rumor of mediocrity or not, however, we’ll try and keep you up to date on any further details that may surface.

If the graphics meet the target thats good.

If the gameplay is as good as it looked in the E3 trailer, and it is continuous through, that will be even better.

That's because they weren't surfer girl's comments, they were someone else's she was quoting. Also, mediocrity is subjective...

Killzone was one of the best FPS this past gen. Killzone:Liberation for PSP one of the best portable games ever made, the fact is what ever Guerrilla makes its gonna be epic and GOTY for sure, theres no doubt Killzone 2 will fight againts MGS4 and Resistance 2 for GOTY of 2008, the game has the best graphics even seen in the history ofd gaming even Crysis falls short.

I don't know why people say KZ1 sucked. It did enjoyed the game and graphicaly it was pretty good.

Has for KZ2 it might not be extra good, but it sure won't be mediocre.

The last time we saw it in action, it was as good as that movie, and looked anything but mediocre. Certainly a whiff of something about the rumour, that's for sure!

compared to the 2nd movie i think the first one sucked, who cares if it isn't the target movie, its gotten dang close and has th best graphics i've seen in any video game for a console. Plus 2GB per level this game is going to be ridiculously fun

its impossible for the ps3 to stream pixels such as the first 2005 trailer footage. but the gameplay will most definetly feel like the most cinematic game youve ever played, cant wait for the beta

personally I think it's going to be mediocre, and that's coming from a ps fanboy, you can only make graphics look so good when the game play sucks, take crysis visually perfect but game play wise - lacking. There's better games coming though, I don't doubt Resistance 2 will take home more awards then Killzone 2

Killzone 2 will be awesome - i have no doubt. At the moment its just 360 fanboys crying out loud cause the 360 isnt capable of what they're seeing done with the PS3. I own a 360 myself, but to be perfectly honest its no where near as good as the PS3.

$60million budget? Why would this game cost so much more to develop? Do they use more expensive ploygons, lol. They've probably got a team of around 100 people working on this, but so has other developers. The only way I see this game having bigger budgets is because they spent the money buying themselves Ferrari's and giving themselves a bigger wage packets.

The only mediocrity here involves Surfer Girl and the useless baseless rumors. Stop giving her any credit when she's no better than Pachter in guessing the future (guessing is all they ever do and she's worse at it than he is, and he SUCKS at it.)

    Spread Truth, not rumors.

once people get some reassurance on this game theyll all come back around. SInce its been in the dark since E3 people have kind of lost some hype due to MGS4 news and the Resistance 2 announcement.

shaka stop sucking guerilla and their killzone games....killzone 1 was ok, killzone psp was ok as well, personally i liked it better then killzone 1......i'll admit i'm a graphics whore, but suffice to say gameplay at least for me is more important, just because a game is visually stunning doesn't necessarily make it GOTY....i just want killzone 2 too equal or surpass that 2005 trailer...if the gameplay is up too par then consider us lucky.....i believe killzone 2's main thing to do is to be a graphical showcase for the ps3

This is what rocks about the game the most though the gameplay it feels like you are playing a movie, that can only do Guerrilla and the power of the PS3, its gonna be an experience like no other just like Uncharted.

SurferGirl is an industry insider that was renowned for their FF info.

Anyway, I could care less what one person thinks.  I will camp out for this game if I have to.  I finally got to play the first one over last summer and despite some major glitches, it was an amazing game.  It got a lot of bad reviews because the reviewers were so busy in Halo they thought Killzone was too slow paced.  At least it had an innovative storyline unlike so many other FPS out there now.

@Dwelden, your last comment was unneccasary.

I enjoyed the first game and I am looking forward to the second one. I don't give a rats a55 if it measures up to the video or not. When I first saw the video, I was a little skeptical about the game play being that good. It was just a video. Only a taster of what the game may look like.

Quite a few comments re Kilzone sucks and to be honest to date, they have, ive played a few of them, both on the PSP and Playstation and found them very basic and pretty boaring, but i am looking forward to the latest edition purely because its completely different from previous versions and is more in keeping with what we have come expect these days. Oh and i too would like to praise INSOMNIAC who are doing a great job....keep it up.

That sucks when there's a dev talking about a game, but when all is said and done, you really don't know anything that you didn't already know. I'm kind of losing interest in this game.

The ea video pretty much owned the intire show, it pretty much shut down all the Sony haters that said this game wasnt possible on PS3. they did even better then the 2005 ea trailer the fact of the matter this will make a new standard for FPS games.

  39. killahki | killahki

    • 6:38pm GMT - January 30th, 2008

I believe it should meet and excede the standards as Sony's in house companies have a firm grasp on how to handle the PS3's capabilities. As far as graphics this thing is already crazy. I just hope an equal amount of the 60 mil went to gameplay.

the graphiques of kz2 kick ass, i love the interaction with the diferrent elements of the game, especially when the wall's crumble under intense gun shots, for me this is what next-gen is really about, interaction! hope the gameplay standard's are as high as the graphiques
