Killzone 2 to feature "no install"

According to Guerrilla Games QA Manager Seb Downie, one of the most graphics laden PS3 exclusives to date, Killzone 2, will not require any pre-installation.

With many beautiful games like Fallout 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4 requiring hefty 5GB installs, it comes as a surprise that Killzone 2 won't require at least some kind of hard drive installation.

"No install. Optional or otherwise," wrote Downie on the Official PlayStation Forums.

So there you have it. No need to worry about uninstalling other games so that you can fit Killzone 2 on your hard drive. Killzone 2 is expected to release sometime in February of next year. Stay tuned for more information.

everygame should have the OPTION for install to optimize load times n whatnot, not be REQUIRED. so far, i've only played one game where that is true, and thats Unreal Tournament 3.

If you have a 40 G PS3 then installs can drive you nuts. I am playing the beta and have no issue with load times. Fast loads, beautiful graphics, killer game play, what else do you want???

thats sweet, i hope other develpoers take note of this.

thats how it should be anyways, the only time there should be install is if YOU WANT it.

That's great. I'm not much of a fan of intalls. I don't see why xbox owners are so keen to have their games installed :p

@TaMszz the 360 has a tendency to scratch dvds, and it's freaking noisy. That's probably why.

I personally don't care about the installs though.. but it's impressive that it doesn't need it.

I wonder if other 'programmers' will take note and then read some text books on 'how to be a better programmer for dummies' or better yet, just let guerilla do the work and let everyone else attmpt to follow..  and fail miserably.

Games should have installs to reduce the stress on the laser. Installs are a good thing.

so your telling me the team who created MGS4 arent talented?

  23. Demon_Dog

    • 6:55am GMT - November 25th, 2008

Gonna Have to agree with illicious on this one. installs imo are a good thing. but the fact that killzone 2, with its graphical prowess, has no installs just shows how much they have utilized the space on the Blu-Ray disc. Kudos to Guerrilla Games for that.

Uncharted didn't have an install. Why should it come as a surprise.

And I wish people would stop talking about utilizing the space on blu rays because we are not sure HOW they are getting the title to do such a thing so in a safe bet Just hand the credid to the talented devs and be done with it.

  27. Gomersoul | Gomersoul

    • 9:17am GMT - November 25th, 2008

i don't mind installs cos i upgraded my hard drive to 320gb. and if it helps the load times that is good. when you play uncharted i know this is lame but you can hear the blu ray drive giving it some serious reading. the install on mgs4 was a joke though, it has to re-install if you play the game again. it should have one install at the start like all other games and not bother you after that. if you have a small hard drive i can see the gripe, but a 320gb hard drive for ps3 is only £50 on play.com. then you need never worry

    • 9:32am GMT - November 25th, 2008

@11 not only that but..when DMC and some other games came out, we were getting crticized pretty bad due to the installation. "PS3 has to install, oh noez, haha they install games haha sux 4 pstriple" now Xbox gives them the option and they are all over it. why arent we covering there boards with POSER messages??

this GEN jus isnt right, im noticing things, we do first, and its bad, the MS does it and its a godsend

Strange. A game like Killzone 2, using more power from the PS3 than any other game on the PS3 doesn't need an install? Does that seem weird to anybodt else?

thank goodness I'm tired of getting rid of deta, music, videoes, and photos just to download ONE game, I had to do that with DMC4 and they said the by doing that there would be "no load time in the game" but that was a huge lie

Killzone 2 is doing what few others were willing to: they are utilizing unuseda juice in the cell processor  like virtual ram in a computer, its not easy so previous devs preferred to stick the graphics into an install. This is how you kill the 360's superior graphics card without needing installs.

I'm glad someone finally found a better way to utilise the cell. The Killzone 2 beta was a relitively small download for 3 pretty big levels. Can't wait for the final version. This game is gonna ROCK!!!
