Following on from Sony Europe's announcement of the 160GB PlayStation 3, SCEA has confirmed that the new package will hit North America as well.

Currently scheduled for a November launch, the bundle will include Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, a PSN voucher for PAIN and the DualShock 3 controller, all for $499. The recently announced 80GB model is currently shipping to retailers and will sell for $399.

"As PLAYSTATION Network continues to evolve with our recently launched video delivery service and more exclusive games, PS3 owners are demanding more storage capacity," said Jack Tretton, president and CEO, SCEA. "Consumers also are utilizing PS3 as an entertainment hub for their digital media, placing content such as their entire music collection on the hard drive. The 160GB PS3 system addresses this growing consumer demand in a compelling bundle that delivers significant value."

If its like the current 499.99 80 GB model, then the price would be decent. But, if its just the 40 GB with a 160 GB hard drive.. I smell a rip off. :p

i'm keeping it real!!! this the dumbest move Sony is about to make since the PS3 been out. its no way the 120gb will sale this holiday not at $500 the GB is nice the DS3 is nice but not for a game that been out for a year where you can pick it up dirt cheap. they at least have to add a new title with the console or drop the price of the 80gb to $350 and the 120gb to $450.

psn id: gingo... i dont know why sony dont just release their own larger hard drive say a 320gb one it would be cheaper than making a full new console

So the 160GB model does not have a backwards compatibility to play PS2 games?

If so, then this is nothing. Anyone with a PS3 right now can upgrade more than 160GB of memory.

With that much space idk if you'd need to worry about running out of it. Looks pretty sweet and at least the 80 gb's price dropped because of it.

Like I said. 40 SKUs by 2012. Early adopters RULE. Us 'waiter' missed out. maby once they make-up the 3 billion in debt and start prfiting in, oh, 15 years the PS4 will have everything.

Wait, what happened to the 40GB? If the 160GB is $499, the 80GB is $399, then the 40GB is what? Discontinued? Apparently I didn't get the memo. I wish they would just keep it and sell it for $299.

I don't care about hard drive size.  I want full backwards compatibility.  When is sony going to realize that this IS important to some people.

The 160gb PS3 will not sell, due to the fact that the system might cost over $700.
