Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has announced that Life with PlayStation will release today, September 18, worldwide simultaneously.

For those of you who don't know, Life with PlayStation is a new lifestyle service that offers users a new visual and interactive way to use their PS3 to access news and information from around the world.

As the initial content, LIVE CHANNEL will be released for Life with PlayStation. Through network connected PS3, it delivers worldwide news and information centering on two themes, "place" and "time" on a world map interface. Some of the live content includes cloud imagery (provided by University of Wisconsin-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center), along with weather information (provided by The Weather Channel), news headlines (provided by Google News), and live camera images (partially provided by The Earth Television Network) of nearly 60 cities around the globe.  Through LIVE CHANNEL, PS3 users will be able to enjoy worldwide news and live information free of charge. In addition to LIVE CHANNEL, Life with PlayStation will continually deliver a wide variety of interactive content and channels to living rooms through network connected PS3s.

PS3 users can easily join Life with PlayStation by simply clicking the Folding@home icon on the network column of XMB that will update to Life with PlayStation.

Downloading it now, great way to make people do folding. :D but don't really care about this addon, but it's free so it's just plus.
edit: atleast it seems to be better than wii's new channel and weather channel.

What the he!!, no Copenhagen ??? I know that Denmark is a small country, but they got Stockholm (Sweeden) and Oslo (Norway), both are smaller cities than Copenhagen.

@Wuffer: I guess it's how large the country is... I don't know.. Maybe it's not completed yet.. =P. I'm from Sweden, and I don't really care for this program (as it is right now). News arent really that interesting, and I have my iPod to see the weather forecast..

It's a great start, but I hope they will update it with a lot of new features.  Here's what I think it needs...

    • An option to where you can turn on country, state, county borders.
    •
    • Have where you can zoom into a state and see live, up-to date radar data, warnings, and watches for counties.  I usually use NOAA.gov, but since they are getting help from the Weather Channel, they could do something besides just a view of clouds.
    •
    • It would be nice to be able to put in your zip code and it would pop up a thing when you're in a game telling you if there are any new watches, or warnings for your area.  So you're playing your LittleBigPlanet and...oh, a tornado is coming this way.  *unplugs PS3, tucks in under arm, and goes to the storm cellar* :)
    •
    • They need an option to turn off the night view of Earth, or at least have radar data shown here so you know where the clouds and storms are at.
    •
    • I live in Arkansas and there really aren't any cities around me on here.  I've got Houston, and Atlanta and very rarely do I get weather from either one of these places (Hurricane Ike being the one exception).  The Midwest is devoid of any cities on this thing.  I'd like to see Little Rock on here, but I would at least expect to see Oklahoma City, Memphis, or Kansas City on here.  I hope they'll add some, or allow you to add your own on here.
    •
    • The news browser needs a zoom like the PS internet browser so you can actually read text and see pictures.
    •
    • I'd like to be able to zoom in on the city web cams and maybe each city could have muliple to chose from in the future.  That would be cool.
    •
    • You know Google Earth/Maps where you can see the location of YouTube videos?  Well, what if here you could browse through YouTube videos and find some near you?
    •
    • They need to have it where you can zoom way in and really use it like Google Earth with satelite photos and what not.

All in all, I think it's a great little program and I think it'll get a lot more people to fold by using this.  It has a lot of room for improvement, but great idea and great job Sony :)
