Linger in Shadows launching October 9

Get ready to not play Linger in Shadows when it launches on October 9.

"Wait, not play?" asks the naive gamer. Well, you see, Linger in Shadows is not a game, it is Interactive Digital Art, thus it can be experienced, but not played.

"Linger in Shadows is NOT a game," Rusty Buchert, Sr. Producer for Linger in Shadows, explains. "It was never meant to be a game and it will never be a game. Yes it has trophies, but it still isn’t a game..."

"A 'demo'," he continues, "is an audiovisual program created to demonstrate and push the limits of a machine through the devotion, creativity and originality of the demosceners who created the 'demo'."

"Previously demoscene productions were passive experiences," he elaborates. "You ran it, sat back and watched. One of the things that Plastic wanted to do with Linger was to move in a new direction. Linger can be watched passively, but you won’t get the whole experience that way. It is meant to be an experience that you explore through. Look beyond the frame of what you see. Search for new things, experiment with the SIXAXIS, and you might be surprised by what you find."

This (non)game only further cements my view that videogames are art. We'll have more for you on this intriguing title soon.

Hmm this is interesting, its new and innovative, I might check this out. and at 3 yeah i couldn't connect for a while and i just ended up restarting my PS3 and i was able to connect, but for some reason when i play other people's levels the load times are really really long, it wasn't like that yesterday for me, it was quick, maybe there are too many people on the server or something

Videogames conceptually have the potential to be the greatest artform.

Like film an amalgam of Story, Music, photography, animation, now acting etc.

Buts it's their unique ability for genuine interactivity that threatens to elevate it above and beyond other artforms.

    That's the good news.

The bad new is that the money and PR guys moved in faster than in any other fledgling meduim and unfortunately the average target audience is even dumber than Hollywoods.

Titles like this will sure help though.

Please do not divulge further, I'd like some or most things to be a surprise in a title I've wanted since it's announcement, and I pray this 'Interactive Art' will continue

Well that's the first ,of I believe two, demoscences that Sony said was coming, truthfully I'm more interested in what it does so I'll probably end up getting it.

The demoscene has had interactive demos for a VERY long time.  I remember Amiga demos in 1998 that allowed you to take control of some of action that was going on in the demo.

So, it's not a game, but it has Trophies? Awesome. I'm starting to think people will get it just for the trophies.

Looks tasty, but trophies or no trophies, I ain't putting down a penny for something that isn't a game, so I'm hoping it's free.  Moving on, I think most here will agree that video games are in fact the very pinnacle of 21st century art. However, we are a long way from convincing the rest of the world of this. Somehow the powers that be still think gaming is a mindless waste of time that makes people stupid. I say well I read a lot of books and watch movies and they are pretty cool but imagine being able to go inside the story and control what happens and how it plays out. That my friends, is living art, not just a dead body of work that is thrown at us.

It'll cost the same as a small PSN game, its an interactive art piece. Demoscene never get much credit, it's about time they made a bit of cash for their hard work.
