MacDonald: Sony "madly working" to hit Home open beta date

Sony Worldwide Studios Vice President Jamie MacDonald has said that the platform holder is ‘madly working’ in order to meet it’s projected release date for the PlayStation Home open beta.
"At Tokyo Game Show it was announced that PlayStation Home will be hitting what we're calling an open beta by the end of the year, which means it will be available to everybody,” said MacDonald, during the Game 3.0 conference in London today.
"And the latest is, it's going very well. The guys are madly working to make sure that date is hit, and it's going very well."
MacDonald also revealed that PlayStation Home was originally created in response to the frustrations gamers have with the hardcore online gaming environment, which he described as “geeky, tedious and short.”
“The reason why we even started developing that (PS3 Home) was really a frustration a few years ago that the online experience for most games players was geeky, tedious and short. Certainly in my experience, I got into a first person shooter online and I lasted about 15 seconds. It's not much fun,” he said.
“So that was really our driving force with Home, to provide an environment where it's fun to go, you can hang out with like-minded people and talk about games, play games, have a look at the leaderboards, but in an environment that was game centred but not just for these teenage boys, who are fine, but they enjoy very much shooting people, which is fine."
Sony is now saying that the Home open beta will launch at the end of the year, as opposed to a late October date as recent rumours have suggested.

I thought 1.0 was open beta? Qore is suggesting that Home 1.0 will be closed.
But like everything else in qore this probably means that we will all have acces to it at least two weeks later.

Well, let this serve as an explaination as to why Home seems like such a boring concept to those who complain. It's not for hardcore people. You are the type that just want to get online and ADD yourselves to death in COD4. Home is for the casual gamer that Sony left behind. Which is why they are last.

Isnt the hole point of being online with a shooter being tested! 15 seconds is actually a long time if you ask me. When I went on Restistance the first time I didnt last 5 seconds. haha. you gotta be in that sh it to get better. So is it gonna be a bunch of people not aiming right just shooting at the sky/ground! haha that would be funny.

iWouldn't Get Too Excited About This News; How Long Have They Said This Now? In All Fairness iKnow It Takes A Long Time To Make & Develop, But Why Just Not Tell Anyone About It, Wait Til' Its Completed & Then Release It With News!

Someody screwed up big time when they said this was going to be released LAST year. Home better be a PERFECT release and not somethng that is going to take another year of patches in order to get it at a useful state. All the hype surrounding Home is really going to blow up in Sony's face if this product doesn't deliver.

i say november, but im pretty sure they'll hit the date, i'm really excited for it, it's not only getting a group of people together to play online easier but you will be able to talk and get to know them a little before you start playing, and they are giving you tools to plan strategy and have organized competitons much much easier. Home is a great tool and it's something that will help set the ps3 apart even more
and everyone will be able to download it no requirements or registration neccesary they are calling it open "beta" because they will still be adding things after release (extras like new dev spaces and what not, not features they already announced for it), i can understand your guy's pessimism but get real, sony wouldn't be saying so heavily that it's going to be ready when they've put they're foot in their mouth in the past, i have faith it will be out november or december

why are they so worried about the open beta being absolutely perfect? i thought the point of a beta was that you released it and when people found problems they fix the problems or people see what it's like and change and improve everything depending on how good it is, then once everyone's happy they move it on to the alpha stage and continue making it better by adding and upgrading things. So technically they should have released it yesterday or said there will not be an open beta and they are "madly working" on the final full release

It'll be a nice addition, but I'm not really aching for it. The thing is, I am so tired of all the HOME news that just says how hard they are working on this. I realize it must be an intricate system, but multimillion dollar games have taken less time to make, and this is afterall largely just a graphical social network. The team is probably tiny and they don't much care how long it delays cuz itll be free to us. I can't imagine the Crashbox Experience will even come close to matching it since they just wanted to shove more crap out the door before Sony could get their quality product done.

So to cut short, home is being pushed back, truely doubt it will be out before christmas but that doesn't really bother me anymore!

HOME is a mammoth project, incredible visual 3D world creation and visuals, very much worth the wait - I hope. But I feel it'll still be full of Half-Asleep ppl wandering a VR Realm where other ppl and still cybering in their concentrated and mostly hidden little clicks not wanting to interact at all , expecially with newbies.
I think the PS3 will bring great new heights to the VR world, but it'll still take years yet. If you look at whats out their already in VR it ver dismall with just a few really good spots.
For Home to succeed it'll need a Very easy, Very good World Creation App on the PC, because it just wont be easy on the PS3....I dont know if this is out ? at all ? in beta ? but this needs to be out now, probably moreso than the actually HOME 'game'.
