Manhunt 2 "uncensored" by PSP hackers

Posted on November 1st, 2007 at 17:52 EDT

If you haven't been keeping up with the news surrounding Rockstar's most recent title, Manhunt 2, then here is a quick refresher...

During production of Manhunt 2, Rockstar sent a demo of their game to be rated by the ESRB, but it turned out that the ESRB decided to give it a rating of "Adults Only" due to the amount gore and sadistic torturing methods. Rockstar, knowing that the game was effectively banned as neither Sony nor Nintendo allow AO games to be licenced on their platforms, had to tone down the game. Afterwards they sent another demo to be rated and this time it was rated M for "Mature", although it wasn't good enough for the British Board of Film Classification who banned the title in its entirety.

Rockstar's fix: smoke, mirrors, and a couple of blurred lines that all amount to a blurry filter to make all the executions harder to make out.

With the changes that Rockstar did make, it appears it wasn't that difficult of a task as some Russian hackers may have found a way to reverse the fix which pretty much un-censors the game. The hack requires a disk image of Manhunt 2, a software back-up tool called "UMDGen" and the editing of two different initialization files.

Back in July 2006, Take-Two Interactive Software announced that a Consent Order had been approved, stating: "the Company shall not misrepresent a video game's ratings or content descriptors and that the Company shall implement a system to ensure that all game content is reviewed in connection with submissions to ratings authorities."

The publisher may not face repercussions this time though, with the reinstated Manhunt 2 content only being accessible by those able to modify the original game code. So you won't click here to find out how to do it.

Look out for more soon.

I like manhunt2 alot i bought the ps2 version and since its toned down some i noticed it alot but at the same time im showing my appreciation towards rockstar for buying it.

Also i noticed that like how the brain splatters like when the baseball bat is used on manhunt1 when the enemy is down dead, well on manhunt2 they still didnt tone or get rid of that effect which is cool. The uncensored version haves nudity , and theres a part in the game when u see some tv ull see a line strip over the breast of a female on the tv but at the same time it being toned down isnt so bad at all.

Haha no matter what happens, Rockstar is always in the limelight for the controversial games. :)

I dont think it was ever Rockstar's thing to make cracking the game "difficult".  Obviously "blurring" out the offending image, they knew someone was going to get past it, hence no comment on RS's part as of now.

Who cares the game is crap anyway - its not fun to play its not scary and the graphics are B grade - its just 100% hype.

Anyway - whilst PSU is promoting hacking....

BD+ encryption cracked already

Only a matter of time....ha ha ha

Clement James, vnunet.com 01 Nov 2007

Controversial DVD decryption firm SlySoft may already have broken the 'unbreakable' BD+ protection afforded to Blu-ray discs.

The company's latest release of AnyDVD HD software comes with support for full HD-DVD and Blu-Ray movie discs.

Until now, AnyDVD software was only capable of cracking Blu-ray's older AACS (Advanced Access Content System) security which is also used by the HD-DVD camp. But BD+ is a new layer of security exclusive to Blu-ray.

So far only The Day After Tomorrow and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer have contained the BD+ layer.

SlySoft's BD+ cracking code is not thought to be fully implemented in the latest release of AnyDVD HD, but some users claim that it does work.

A user on the SlySoft forum known as 'manixx' said of Fantastic Four: "I am backing up my second copy as I tex, it plays fine on my ps3 as well. I guess the sky's the limit, no problem did anyone else have this success? "

SlySoft is based in Antigua, where it can apparently get away with creating software that directly breaches Digital Millennium Copyright Act and EU Directive copy protection laws.

The best thing about Bluray is that its so easy to crack .... Free free movies are free!

Hey PSU thanks for the hacking tip for this game....would you mind if I created a link to sites where your readers can learn how to hack their PSP and some nice Torrent sites for PSP, PSX & PS2 game downloads? Let us know - I'll take silence as no objection....
