Last summer, EA and Marvel stirred up the hopes of many Marvel fanboys as they announced their latest collaboration. This lasted very shortly as today Marvel announced their decision to part ways on the project.
The game was slated to be a fighting game that would host characters from Marvel's universe. This new project was set to be EA's first venture into the Marvel universe but EA has since closed the studio that was to be responsible for the title. Because of the recent turmoil over at EA, Marvel made their announcement official that the deal with EA had been called off.
"Electronic Arts and Marvel have jointly agreed to discontinue development of Marvel fighting games under the Electronic Arts brand," said Justin Lombros, VP of Marvel Interactive. "This was a business decision based on Electronic Arts portfolio strategy and will not affect Marvel's ongoing plans to release fighting games based on the Marvel properties in the future."
Although unsuccessful with EA, Marvel hopes to pursue other developers and publishers to work on a future fighting game but no official word has been released pertaining to specific companies.

It's good news when anyone has the balls to walk away from the uncreative dinosaur that is EA. Hey now they focus the extra staff on need for speed 99 or FIFA 2009 (read FIFA 25).
EA's new game intro should be: EA - Recycling old games and swallowing up tallent ..... FOR YOU!

And??? So what! EA are utter rubbish and Marvel should stick to comics as ALL comic strip character based games that have made the cross over to gaming have been utter rubbish. And if EA had got involved they would have been even worse, I can see it now The Hulk v Spiderman 2015, im surprised they havent gushed out tiger woods or FIFA 09 yet. come on EA your slacking.

"This was a business decision based on Electronic Arts portfolio strategy..."
So it's basically a problem that Marvel doesn't like EA's strategy of releasing a game on all consoles. Could we be seeing a PS exclusive? We can only hope.
