Take a look at Mirror's Edge's upcoming demoNetflix, an online video rental store, announced today that the company would exclusively support Sony’s Blu-ray format for all of its high definition move rentals.
The company cited Time Warner’s own announcement on supporting Blu-ray as the main reasons for its decision, confirming that all HD-DVD rentals would be pulled once the life cycle of remaining stock has depleted.
"The prolonged period of competition between two formats has prevented clear communication to the consumer regarding the richness of the high-def experience versus standard definition”, commented Netflix Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos.
“We are now at the point where the industry can pursue the migration to a single format, bring clarity to the consumer and accelerate the adoption of high-def. Going forward, we expect that all of the studios will publish in the Blu-ray format and that the price points of high-def DVD players will come down significantly."

I had no idea they had HD DVDs. I think I might have to start an account with these guys. HD is the only way to watch movies!
This is getting ridiculous, when is it going to end? What brainless fools are still buying HD-DVDs for it to not announce its own death?
I've never heard of them...lol but even so it's good that HD DVD is being left out in the cold by even more retailers...
Stupid format war can't keep going for much longer.
cooo and good thing for BR fans
psn id: gingo.... soon the only companies supporting HD DVD will be dreamworks and paramount and then they will finally give in and change to blu ray becasue HD DVD failed miserably
Oh wow. I consider this to be a big statement. This only accelarates what is in progress but the hold outs are now having less of a leg to stand on.
who cares?
Netflix, you've chosen well
I was at one point very close to buying a HD-DVD player but didnt because of the PS3 price drop. THANK GOD I DIDNT!
Keep 'em coming!
i cant wait until microsoft accepts defeat and puts a brd in there system.
does HD-DVD really need another nail....i know the coffin's all nailed up already
more good news. Great way to start off a monday if you ask me.
WOOT! Great decision Netflix --You will not be sorry!
Time Warner was a punch to the face and this is a leg sweep to HD DVD. Only a matter of time before they hit the ground.
Now the coffin has been nailed, i believe it is time to cremate it and scatter the ashes over M$.
yay! another company gone Blu-Ray! the end is near for HD-DVD...
hd dvd fail
Another nail in the HD-DVD coffin!
HD DVD has died alredy, just throw in the towel and call it quits.
Another kick to the corpse of HD-DVD?
I should be over any time, like yesterday.
it's good to hear that hd-dvd is down and out. it was nice knowing you HD/dvd, actually we never met. But it was still nice hearing that you have to leave so soon. take care, buh bye!
Netflix is pretty big and by doing this its just making as big (well not that big) as other companies switching to Blu-ray.
lol, ok, enough stating that HD DVD is losing. its got nothing going for it, the end, BR ftw
The day that I buy a new HDTV will be the day that I sign up for netflix. Come on Tax rebate check! lol
The war ended when Warner announced blu ray as the format to support. Now the HD DVD supporters will slowly fall one by one day by day.
So many people are still not informed. My barber only the other day was telling me he was thinking of getting the HD-DVD add-on for his 360. I told him about the current situation in which he is now not going to buy one. After that he said he has just got himself a PS3 but he didn't realize it had a blu-ray player in it.
The nails for Hd-dvd's coffin keep on a comin'.
But wait... MS just slashed 50 bucks off the HD players for Xbox. Oh well, guess their grabbing as many suckers as possible before its official.
This is great news. Any progress towards one HD format is good progress.
Somebody shoot this HD-zombie in the head, set it aflame, douse it with piss, pour it into an urn, weld it shut, sink it in lead & toss it into a bottomless pit, please.
