New GH IV details revealed

With EA and MTV Games rockin' the music videogame scene with their latest title from Harmonix, Rock Band; it has left Activision and Neversoft with a lot of catching up to do. As many of you know, Rock Band allows you to play with almost an entire band of instruments, something never offered before in the genre. With Guitar Hero slowly fading out of the limelight of the industry, Activision finds itself struggling to compete with just a guitar. Enter Guitar Hero IV -- improperly named of course.
More information was revealed today about the upcoming title, especially about the instruments that will be made available to its users. Going the way of Rock Band, Activision is going to be releasing drums with GH as well. These drums will only have three circular pads, but will also have two raised cymbals that are designated to activate Star Power. It is also believed that each pad will be pressure sensitive, but we'll have to see how that plays out.
One of the other new implementations finding its way to GH is the character customization abilities. Much like in Tiger Woods, GH fans will be able to move facial sliders in order to construct their rockstar to their liking. On top of this, users will be able to rock out in a freeplay mode that will let them create their own original tracks that will be uploadable to the server. Speaking of tracks, Activision is also promising more downloadable music than ever before.
With no release date confirmed, your guess is as good as ours on when to expect this next installment of Guitar Hero goodness. We'll keep you up to date though on when a release date is announced.

waste of time and effort.

As for the article, this may be more appealing if they do not force gamers to purchase the drums with the guitar in a more expensive package. If gamers that don't care about the drums can just stick to the guitar/game package or their old guitar from jump street, then the purchaseability of this game would then only rely on the quality of music in the game.
That seemed to be lacking in GHIII. Not that their were not great songs to play(Raining Blood, Knights of Cydonia, Take This Life), but you would expect more for a game titled "Legends of Rock". For example, They have a fake Jimmy Hendrix character in the game, but no Voodoo Child or Purple Haze. Once more, just because a group was in previous Guitar Hero games, should not mean that you never add anymore of their songs. When you see a game entitled "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock", you expect legends of rock or of the guitar itself. So then, more than one Santana song, Jimmy Hendrix, Motorhead, etc.
Once More, I believe that the demand is building across the globe for a Death Metal Version of Guitar Hero. They should consider this. I would think that worldwide, it could sell more than that 80's version. So then, bring on Unearth, Amon Amarth, Ministry, More Slayer, etc.

This genre of games is fun, but I know people that play the crap out GH and RB. I would suggest people pick up a real guitar instead of playing these games. Trust me, your way more of a "hero" if you can actually play! and it's alot more fun.

It's not just about just adding instruments. Harmonix knows their way around the music genre. Neversoft not so much imo. And only 3 pads?! 4 is already too easy for me.

I agree with ogt462, & psydistix. I posted a very agressive response on this same type of article a few days ago. My stance has not changed. If these corporate a__holes think I'm forking out more money for an extra drum set and guitar, they are off their rocker. I love the music genre games but I live in an apartment. In it I have the r.b. drums, strat, mic and mic. stand to sing and play one of the instruments together. I also own the gh3 les paul along with the wireless frontman guitar. That's 3 guitars, 1 drum set, 1 mic and 1 mic stand with boom arm. We are in a recesion economically. Why don't these greedy bastards focus on making $ from DLC. This is where the money is kids. If you put the game in more peoples hands at AFFORDABLE prices than you can make your money from the DLC. Activision is so god damb greedy. It would be cool if they would show some appreciation to the people that made them a million dollar franchise and give people a break, but the people at SCREWUUPTHEASSIVISION. Won't do something like that. Psydistix is bang on out about the tracks that are out as well. i can't remember the last time I downloaded anything for either game. I need something that creates energy and is good and hard. Pantera would kick a__. But the greedy pricks at SCREWUUPTHEASSIVISION will no longer be getting my $.
