New PS3 Starter Pack for Europe

Posted on January 30th, 2008 at 03:32 EDT

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is looking to entice gamers by offering a brand new 40GB starter pack for the PS3 which will include two of the more critically acclaimed games the system has to offer.

Due to release this week, the new starter pack will include the 40GB PlayStation 3 model packed in with two SixAxis controllers so that gamers will be ready to play with a friend right out of the box. The bundle will also be shipping with a copy of Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The bundle will carry a price tag of EUR 499.

This bundle is too good of an offer to pass up seeing as Sony's original 60GB starter pack has already been phased out. That original starter pack included Resistance: Fall of Man as well as a copy of Motorstorm. Although both of those games could easily carry their weight, the reception behind Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank has been overwhelming and great games to show off the system's capabilities.

This new starter pack was currently announced for Spain but it is safe to assume that the rest of Europe should be seeing this bundle showing up at some point.

This is a good offer, When I bought my 60gb, I held back until they offered at least 2 controllers. Waiting paid off for me.

This pack kind of sucks.

I payed the same 499 Euros for my 60Gb PS3 with 2 controllers and 2 games (and that was 4 months ago).

I don't get this Sony....

Smart idea, the first starter pack is what pushed me into getting a ps3.  I hope people who buy this pack still buy Resistance, because that would mean more people playing it online.

Why 2 controllers if the games you get are single player?

@glengordon, its called marketing, they need to generate sales. They can't drop the price so they're giving away stuff. What would you rather have, the latest game or stuff thats been released so long ago nobody talks about it anymore?

psn id: gingo... 2 excellent games with this bundle but i think they should just allow a choice of many different games because some people dont like these kind of games

Would have been a better deal if the two controllers were Dual Shock's instead

@Keefy I was thinking the same thing

I agree with everyone as well about choosing a selection of 5 games (at least) you want to get from a store upon a pusrchase of the 40gig bundle, I am not sure why Sony's isn't giving the consumers a choice on this. :/ Or is it this is the best we ar going to get because I think we can get a better deal.

Wow, good thing I got my 60GB with 1 controller and no game or Blu-ray.  That was an awesome deal Sony!  Give everything to your new adopters because your early ones saved your a**.

This whole generation of constantly changing SKUs is just pissing me off.  There needs to be 2-3 SKUs with a a possible redesign later.  This was the first time I was able to get a console at launch and I'm getting boned hard.

I'm turly tired of hearing people complain about early adopting, why the h3ll would they have a term for it, if it didn't exist. Early adopters always take a huge risk to purchase stuff when it first comes out. (Beta vs VHS, HD Dvd vs Blu ray, etc.) It's the price you pay to be an early adopter, and brag to all your friends that you have a PS3, XBOX360, HD DVD, etc. I personally could care less, I bought an original 60GB at launch with an extra controller, and Resistance, plus the crap blu ray movie they through in, and I paid $1000 for it. So if I do the math that's about $500 difference. Well if I could go back in time I would do it again. Do you know why??? Because $500 is a small price to pay for the amount of use and enjoyment I had playing my PS3 for last year and 3 months!!!!!

wow wolfhalk  * stands and applauds*      you took the words right outa my mouth! litteraly ! word for word! i did the exact same thing u did 60gig at launch wit 2 games 2 controllers, dvd remote, and a bluray, paid over 1000 and would do it again in a second!!! easily got 500$ worth of fun outa that machine so far AND i got the best version of the ps3! so stop whining because you  made ur own choice to buy the system early so dont act like you didnt know this was gunna happen!!! OH NO PRODUCTION COSTS WENT DOWN THE PRICE DROPPED!! HOW DARE SONY DROP THE PRICE SO I CAN HAVE MORE PPL TO R@PE ONLINE!! give it up already
