The information about the latest Tomb Raider title is rolling abound. It seems that each week brings new light about Eidos’ new game. Now we are able to bring you even more information of the title that many of you all should find insightful.
Developed by Crystal Dynamics, the games time frame will take place right after the events of Tomb Raider: Legends and will feature new animations created specifically for Lara Croft.
These details come from the latest issue of Play magazine in which it reveals that, "Her adventure will be a thrill ride for anyone new to the franchise. The emphasis is on bringing Lara's world to life, a lush, vast interactive world that reacts and remembers. It's pure woman versus wild. In the level where Lara explores Southern Mexico, she leaves footprints in the mud, but it's raining so they wash away. The bodies she leaves behind in combat encounters will stay, however, as will the debris from any destruction she causes."
Furthermore, the weather system and environmental textures will play a huge role in the game, as Eric Lindstrom from the Crystal Dynamics team comments, "we developed a hybrid lighting model that combines dynamic lights with carefully created light maps to make our world look stunning in ways that none of the available methods could achieve alone."
Currently, Tomb Raider Underworld is listed for a 2008 release (crosses fingers) but anything can happen between now and then. In the next coming months, more details about Underworld will surface up as development heats up further.

I played Tomb Raider one and really never returned to the series. If this turns out to be good, I might take a look at giving it a try

After playing through Uncharted and enjoying it so much, they're going to have to try really hard for me to care about TR again.
DJrussell: people are critisising it because they want it to be better. It's hardly the "greatest" when every TR game since the 2nd one has tanked so badly. the only thing people are really remembering is the fact that lara has been one of the more visible female lead characters since Samus, The games on the other hand have lost fans more and more with each subsequent release.

As a big Tomb Raider Fan I really enjoyed Legends, but my god was it short!!!! I didn't play it non stop, but still completed in a week. The Tomb Raider episodes of old took about a month to complete. I just hope the next installment is vastly bigger in depth!

For sure, the dam developers wont create a very good Tomb Raider. I like the old Tomb Raiders, they were very long, better puzzles, better story and better mission places i call. Now, its getting worse. Creating very short games and which makes the game look like stupid. Such as this one, we can tell from the name "UNDERGROUND". Tomb Raider is known as puzzle game and the missions are based at pyramids, and etc. I as i read about the this one, the game be playing just underground as they named it.

tr 2 was the best with excellent level design.tomb raider 4 was good with decent puzzles and enemies.they know it needs togo back to its roots, but with american developers its all about the sheen, not the content (usually),-unfortunately.however, i also hope its good, as in its day,it was truly class.

in addition to what nosferatu said; i wouldnt make this a ps3 exclusive just yet.. i was a tr fan but ever since tr 5 or 6 came out, i fell out of love with the game, especially sinced they changed old things such as lara's mansion to the way they are now.
I think they should do a remake of tomb raider 2 EXACTLY as it was and make it a ps3 exclusive.. cause i think THAT was the game which gave Tr its well known popularity.

Listen to half of you.. its like almost everyone that has criticised the game thus far has "broken it off" because of stupid things. The mansion's different? An early PS2 game wasnt the best? the puzzles? Well what does everyone expect? Every series dips - but good ones get right back up again and keep moving forward. Take Resident Evil 3 - absolute crap... but it made a huge comeback with RE4. Get over it you guys... ill be waiting until the game is released and everyone here will all of a sudden change their attitudes when the reviews start coming in - "OH ITS SUCH A WONDERFUL GAME" blah blah blah... i can see it now.

i only liked the tomb raiders on ps1, the way they changed the franchise on ps2 put me off continuing the series, so maybe tr on ps3 will do good for the franchise which still has so much to offer. my very first game on ps one was tr and i just loved it, i'll just wait and see how the game comes out, hope they take thier time to make a quality game!
