New information on 40GB PS3

Realdealgaming.com has an interesting theory on a possible release date for the rumored 40GB PlayStation 3 console.

According to the site, there are a few factors, that, when added up could quite possibly reveal a prime time for Sony to put out a budget PS3 later this year.

Sony has gone on the record in stating that there will be a large announcement in the middle of October, and with rampant rumors floating around the internet about a possible price drop of 40GB SKU, there is plenty to talk about.

If realdealgaming is correct, Sony will be announcing a 40GB version that could possibly come in two bundles – one promoting the system as a Blu-ray player, and one promoting the console as a gaming hub.

To support their theory, they call upon the Spider-Man 3 rumor, in which a 40GB system would come bundled with a Blu-ray copy of the movie for USD 400. This would be released on Oct. 30th, day and date with the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the movie. This bundle would be promoted as the ultimate Blu-ray bundle.

Realdealgaming has also predicted a "gaming" bundle, which will come with a copy of Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction. This is based on the fact that the game is being delayed for one week from Oct. 23rd to the 30th. Ordinarily this would not be a rumor to spark a theory on a new console, however, on the PlayStation Blog, the game has been announced as Gold status (meaning the game has reached manufacturing stages)

Recently, Greg Phillips, Line Producer at SCEA has stated, "The game is finished and will hit a store near you on October 30. As some of you know, this is a week later than the Oct 23rd date stated previously, but the extra wait will be worth it."

If realdealgaming is right in either or both of these predictions, then Sony will be well on its way to a great holiday season. These bundles would be a great way to sell PS3’s as well as promote the systems strengths. Please note that these are only rumors. However, one final note to add, is that on BluRaySavings.com, there are four PS3 SKU’s listed as qualifying Blu-ray players eligible for the 5 free BD deal. This, along with the recent report that a new model number has been added to the FCC could very well be the first pieces of confirming evidence on a new PS3 in the near future.
