Destiny: Rise of Iron all but confirmed via trademark filing

Bungie has filed a trademark for Destiny: Rise of Iron ahead of its planned live stream event, pretty much confirming earlier reports that the title of the next expansion will indeed be named Rise of Iron.

Rise of Iron was outed via a leaked image that popped up online late last month, depicting a shot of Lord Saladin from the Iron Banner.

Publisher Activision previously confirmed that a new Destiny expansion will be released at some point in 2016, although no info on the new content has been revealed as of yet.

We won’t have to wait long though, as Bungie will be announcing details on Destiny’s future on June 9.

Destiny 2 lined up for 2017 release on PS4

In addition to the new expansion arriving later this year, Activision also announced that Destiny 2 is currently in development and will be released at some point in 2017. Bungie had originally intended to launch the sequel this fall.

No details have been confirmed on the shared-world shooter follow-up as of yet, although there’s a chance we might get some sort of teaser at E3 next week.

Destiny launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 in September 2014. The game has been supported by three expansion to date, namely The Dark Below, House of Wolves and The Taken King.

Bungie has plumped for time-based events in recent months to keep fans entertained, including Festival of the Lost, Sparrow Racing League and Crimson Days.
