No European Video Store this year

Whilst Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is working on getting "local" content, it won't be ready in the near future. Presumably that means sometime in 2009, but if past ventures are anything to go by (PlayTV, PSP GPS etc) then we may not see anything till...2010??

"Sir Howard Stringer has made the commitment that [it] will come to all regions in due course and it will," according to SCEE President, David Reeves. "For us...local content is key and that is exactly what we're working on right now."

The US Video Store lets you purchase or rent downloadable movies and TV shows, which are also playable on your PSP.

Fortunately the Go!View service was launched earlier this week for those of you who want to watch video content on the movie. For £5-10 per month, you can get a variety of entertainment, comedy and sports content for the PSP which you can view as many times as you like as long as you continue to pay the subscription.

Wtf are SCEE doing? Crappy store updates every week, and now this.. Wtf? I think they're way into Singstar, and I can't see the reason why it's region locked. We can buy anything else from the US Store, so why not?

Ridiculous.. Can't we fire the whole SCEE and bring a new fresh team in that wants to do something you know.. I feel like as if they're slacking off and only talks about stuff. I mean come on, they know what we want, just give it to us! I don't care about local content.. I want real content!

I wished they'd just stop developing more or less independantly for all three regions and would just start to develop simultaniously in english an japanes and leave it at that..

all these things that are available here but not there seem so very half assed

Sony can go suck a sweaty donkey d11ck.

I'm so fed up with Europe being fed nothing but sh11t by Sony.

FI, I'm just gonna buy a 360 now, only keep the PS3 for MGS4.

Don't know what Microsoft is like for the Europeans but Sony is constantly taking the p11ss, Lackluster store updates, late to the store when the do arrive (echochrome as an example).

And as someone else pointed out, in Europe things are more expensive.

    F&^&ck the lot of em.

I think that we should all send in letters of complaints, including PSU.com. I think it is PSUs duty as a quality PS news site to be the front for the peoples complaints and real wishes so that they might actually reach the top at SCEE whom I think we can all agree on don't know jack about what the people in Europe want.

Europe is the only place where ps3 has sold more than 360, and they thanks us by delays, problems and more.

They deserve a kick up the backside!

  15. Chris_Redfield

    • 7:07am BST - July 17th, 2008

T-dogg: Well it's not about that, it's that EU is always in the shadows and gets the lowest quality stuff out of the 3 regions. We alwyas have to wait, we always get the crap, we always have to pay more and we always get less than any of the other regions. It's just plain bad.

Who am I trying to kid, PSU doesn't give a crap. They wouldn't do anything.

     i agree with you Chris_Redfield

some kind of complaint letter does need to be created.
I also agree a credible site such as PSU should be  willing to endorse the Europe complaint.

Another thing Sony has to stop doing is region exclusive content.

I understand Sony is  A Japanese company but who cares?

Honestly, why do Sony feel the need to create content only for their own country?

European, American, African, Whatever, we are all just people, do we really need yet another thing to try and keep people divided?

It's just a constant slap in the face to anyone who isn't Japanese that Sony doesn't really care about you.

Sure they take your money (if in Europe lots of it) but it seems they will never give that respect unless it's a birthright.

Damn Sony, stop being so globally insular.

guys, GUYS would you please relax and inform yourselves?

This was the same story with the Xbox 360 video service. They launched in the US and it took a full year before we got it in europe and canada.

ITS NOT a question of them wanting to screw you over, its because they have to sign a deal for ALL studios in ALL the countries they have to sell movies in. And that takes time. That process seems more fluid in the states but it just takes more time elsewhere.

again, Inform yourselves before crying please.

    • 9:46am BST - July 17th, 2008

you all seem to be forgetting a couple of major factors as to why its so difficult for SCEE 1st of all you have numerous different languages to support and 2nd each of these many different countrys with in europe have their own laws on what can and cant be done. So stop moaning and go live in the USA were things are a little more straight forward, oh and believe me the sh1te box is no better

  23. iplayonlysony

    • 9:54am BST - July 17th, 2008

Man that sucks, but the US still does not have the PlayTV service here yet.  So everyone looses in something, except the Japanese of course.

  24. GunTeng

    • 9:56am BST - July 17th, 2008

I'm with DemonBear on this one.

True, at first glance it would seem as if SONY are treating Europe like the poor 2nd cousin, but when you actually put a little effort to think about it, there is a heck of a lot more work involved to bring things to Europe considering all the different regions involved.

I think people should take a second to get over their knee-jerk reactions and then make more balanced decisions. There is good reason for this being how it is....if there is no good reason for European delays, then I would be one of the angry mob sending complaints SONY's way.

  25. BayBud

    • 10:03am BST - July 17th, 2008

     Demonbear

     you make a fair point.
However Sony WILL know that it takes this time to sort out these deals.

They should have gotten the ball rolling for Europe quicker so there will be a same time launch with the US.

Still back to the basic Sony don't really give a duck about Europe.

And what about us Canadians?I'm sure if they look at the sales figures for PS3,they will see that Canada is right up there with the top countries in terms of product sold.

  29. Babiloo | XavierHarkonnen

    • 1:34pm BST - July 17th, 2008

as much as i like sony, they're really f'king with their fanbase anywhere outside of the us and japan. Europe gets the largest shaft i've seen with the ps store updates, and now the video store is only open to us consumers. remember they said NORTH AMERICA that also includes canada and mexico sony, so where's the video store in canada? non-existant. And now your saying its coming to europe in 09? please just get your sh.t together and give us some solid information on when each territory is getting updates and crap then maybe you wouldnt have so many pissed off ps3 users. that is all.

Just a quick note here.I watched the Sony E3 press conference and just remeber them saying that the video download service would be available that night.I never heard them say"North America"Maybe we all just assumed it was all of NA?Can anyone shed some light on this?

  32. PROTOTYPE

    • 3:58pm BST - July 17th, 2008

so does this go for canada as well?

  33. StoneDogAiel

    • 4:15pm BST - July 17th, 2008

problem is, is that things are very straight forward in japan and the US. As was stated before with the many different countries in europe it is much more difficult to bring things to you guys. Multiple companies can own rights to the same movies and this can change from country to country.  A film can be distributed by disney in the US and by Warner Bothers in the UK and someone else in a different country and they all want to make sure they are getting their fair share of the money.

I'm from the U.S., and I bought my PS3 there. I live outside the U.S. though, so I sent an e-mail to Sony to ask why I couldn't receive the video service. This is their response:

    Thank you for writing us.

The PLAYSTATION(R)Store page is updated regularly with new releases. Please visit the link below
for the latest games and downloadable content available. We do not have any additional information
about future content other than what is listed on our website.

Great customer service(sarcasm implied)! Now I'm beginning to feel I made a mistake in my purchase.
