According to the NPD Group’s hardware figures for October 2008, the PlayStation 3 came in last place against the Wii and Xbox 360, selling a total of 190,000 units.
Meanwhile, cumulative sales numbers spanning all three PlayStation units (PS3, PS2 and PSP) for the month reached 519,000 units.
Here are the official Oct. NPD sales numbers:
• Wii – 803,000
• Nintendo DS – 491,000
• Xbox 360 – 371,000
• PSP – 193,000
• PlayStation 3 – 190,000
• PlayStation 2 – 136,000
November should hopefully prove a far more prosperous month for the Tokyo-based platform holder, taking into account the recent delay of LittleBigPlanet and the launch of Resistance 2 earlier this month.
Despite this, many have called for Sony to lower the price of the PS3, fearing its rivals may take the lead if it fails to do so.
