PS3 Bluetooth headset announced

Sony has just unveiled a rather snazzy Bluetooth PS3 headset, due out in Japan on October 30. There's no word of a North American or European release date just yet, but given that Sony has been talking up the benefits for such westerner-friendly titles as Resistance 2, we're sure it's only a matter of time.

The unit is good for 8 hours of talk time and 300 hours on standby, and comes with its own cradle charger. It has an RRP of JPY 5,000 (around USD 46/GBP 25) and a wireless range of 10 meters.

The headset can be worn on either ear and features an inner-ear speaker. When you hook it up to your PS3 via the bundled USB cable, you'll be able to check your charge level, volume and connection status on-screen. Noise-cancelling is also supported.

You'll need the latest system software to run this puppy, so get upgrading!

    I'm going to buy it seperate I know it will be more expensive and you won't get a game. This may come as a shocker to most of you, but im not a Socom fan.

    @ Carl yeah i thought so too, alot of users were going on about how big the speaker is to stick in your ear and how uncomfortable it will get after a while.

    Don't worry PsychoMantis, you're not the only one who's not a fan of Socom.  I'll be purchasing the headset the same way.

    Looks pretty cool, hopefully I'll be buying it with SOCOM, but if it is coming out on the 30th October in Japan, what chance is there of it being bundled with SOCOM for Europe?

    Whats the point man no one talks online hardly anyway, pointless accesory unless improves the service, and the chat features like cros game chat etc and channels like on live

    I believe this is the one that comes with Socom, but I think they are doing this because not everyone wants to play Socom

    Ah whoops, you're half-right Yuk-Yuk. Sony announced a headset/SOCOM bundle not so long ago - this story refers to the standalone product.

    10 times better than that ugly a** keyboard attachement  for the PS3 controller at around the same price.

    This is a different headset they are talking about I think, otherwise this is VERY old news. I'm sure it is a different headset, because the headset they have in the thumbnail is the one that is coming with SOCOM.

     50 bucks is pretty good consdiering it looks like a higher end Bluetooth.  Some high end bluetooths are aroudn 100 bucks!

    @PS3 Addict: Actually its the same headset, theres only going to be one "Official PS3" headset. And it was announced a while ago that it was gunna be bundled with socom. Go SOCOM!!

    Whats the point of paying 50$ for a headset if you could pay 60$ for Socom AND a headset? Anyway, I'll definitely be buying this with Socom.

    Yes already, it's the same one to come with SOCOM, this story isnt about the pricing and the fact that you canby it without SOCOM. not everyone wants the game  all they care about is an "official" headset. It's Old news but NEW news too at the same time.
