Sony Interactive Entertainment has pushed out PS5 system software update 26.04-13.42.00 for download, but don’t get too excited, as it doesn’t do anything particularly earth-shattering.
The official PS5 firmware 26.04-13.42.00 patch notes read as follows:
We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
Earlier this month Sony released PS5 system software update 26.04-13.40.00, which was again aimed at improving the console’s performance and stability. With the console now over five years old, new features being added are becoming few and far between, and Sony’s efforts are mostly focussed on bug squashing and stability improvements.
The PS5 was released in major regions back in November 2020, during which much of the globe was in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, with strict lockdowns in effect. As such, stock shortages plagued the PS5 during this time and would go on to last for over 18 months due to a shortage of components brought on by COVID-19, resulting in scalpers charging and arm and a leg for new stock on eBay.
