PS3 DMC4 has forced installation?

Devil May Cry 4 is without a doubt one of this springs biggest titles, and is scheduled to hit store shelves this week for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America. During its first week of sales in Japan, the PS3 version has, to no surprise, taken an astounding lead over the 360 version of the game.
With a much more even playing field here in the United States, sales numbers are no doubt going to be much closer in numbers when the game hits this week.
Computerandvideogames.com is reporting that the PS3 version of the game has got one major flaw to it. This flaw comes in the form of a forced installation of almost 5GB of data that must be performed before the game can be played.
According to their report, installation took just over twenty-one minutes. This procedure would presumably reduce loading times for the game, but again, according to the report, only a couple of seconds have been shaved off of each loading screen.
The Xbox 360 version of the game needs no installation and boots up immediately, with only a few seconds more each time you load up being the only downside.
Capcom has made no announcement as to what this installation is for, or why it only reduces load times by those few seconds. As more information becomes available, PSU will be there to report it.

the game is fun i don't care if it takes 20mins to start the game and come on its just a one time install not the end of the world but does take off some space off your hard drive :( but still if you liked the other 3 games of DMC then your sure want to play this one even if it takes 20mins ^_^

Well thats rubbish. Hopefully other games dont follow this tradition otherwise people with a 40gig PS3 are going to have full Hard Drives after no more than 7 or so games

If i wanted to install a game on the hard drive I'd use my bloomin PC, this is taking the mickey! A 20 min install just to save a couple of seconds off loading, what a waste of time

What! I can install an entire pc game in less then 20 minutes. This is rubbish, I can understand a 1gig install to take advantage of the ps3 hard drive but 5gigs. Thats almost the same size as a DL DVD which is what the 360 is using, and that doesn't need an install.
I can't help think that this is a result of Capcom cutting corners, in some way.

Seedaripper = I dont want a new HDD. 40 gigs is plenty for me. People shouldnt have to be forced to buy new HDD's simply to be able to play their games

This just proves that the BR drive is slow. But I'm ok with that, as long as publishers start to include extras in the BR disc, like "Making of" and other stuf. Why not include complete movies? Maybe movies related to the game? COD4 could be bundled with some war movie. Uncharted could be bundled with Indiana Jones. Why not?

I tried the demo and didn't like the game, but still... why is this installation such a big deal? I thought that's what the frikkin' hard drive was there for! Another case of certain people in the industry knocking the PS3 just for the sake of it.
They'd probably have done the same on the 360, except they can't, because they don't know if it'll have a hard drive or not!

If this dusty stokes guy is all distressed over using your HDD space, maybe he should spend more money on an HDD and less money trying to look like a preppy freshman that says Bro all the time.

Why is everyone crying that Capcom has let you install it on your HDD for faster loading. I don't get it sometimes. People complain like babies.

from http://ps3.ign.com/articles/849/849224p4.html "...but when you're loading up a cutscene or having another pause in the action, the 360's times are easily three times that of the PS3." Seems worth it to me.

That's not a flaw. Apparently you've never played a Devil May Cry game or you would know just how many loading screens there are.
I knew this was going to be forced for a while now and it never crossed my mind that it would be a hassle. It takes demos longer to download from the PS Store than this installation.
It shaves a few seconds off loading screens. Get over it. Few seconds here and there and eventually you're looking at wasting half an hour on loading screens alone. This is by far one of the best things that can happen for games (though I do wish the install was a bit smaller.) At least the PS3 has a standard HDD so devs can actually take advantage of features like these.

@zarajoe: Umm, DL DVDs are 9GBs not 5. The 360 uses DLs.
