PS3 Orange Box release still TBA

Posted on October 8th, 2007 at 15:40 EDT

On October 19, Xbox 360 and PC users will obtain Valve Software’s latest creation, Orange Box.

However, gamers anticipating the release of the PlayStation 3 version are still very much dark as there still has not been an official word on its release date.

Currently the publisher, Electronic Arts, has no tentative release date for Orange Box on the PS3 as they are probably waiting for a green light from developer Valve Software. It is worth noting that many retailers are pointing at a November 16 or November 23 date but unfortunately, that may not be the case.

This may not come as a surprise to many who have been following the development of the game, as it was formerly revealed that the PS3 version would indeed come after the PC/Xbox 360 versions. However, with a solid date yet to be revealed, PS3 owners could possibly be forced to wait until early 2008 to get their hands on the compilation

The Orange box includes Half-Life 2, HL2: Episode One and Episode Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2.

Portal is an intriguing game where players take the role of scientist Gordon Freeman. The game is based in the world of Half-Life 2 where characters and objects feature a robust physics engine combined with impressive AI.

The console versions of the game will come equipped with the full length Half-Life 2 game as well as HL2: Episode One and Episode Two add-on levels and the Portal puzzle game and Team Fortress 2.

Half-Life is a series meant to be played on PC, which is why I will be getting it for PC, not PS3.

Lazy devs... are LAzY. I wonder why they do that, but then again its not a big surprise because how its still early for the ps3 it hadnt been out for awhile since it hadnt been out for around 3yrs.

If I remember correctly, this was announced to be out this summer. Delay of 4 months was bad enough, but even a longer delay will be much worse, considering how old Half Life 2 is.

Damn EA. Do they even like the PS3?  We all know the annoying problems they gave us earlier.  Its stuff like this that pisses me off.

Eh I've lost all respect for VALVe after their products ruined my computer. Steam and all new games utilizing the HL2.exe and the Source Engine are nothing but buggy software. Their games are great but they don't do crap to fix any bugs. I've had so many problems with that company I play FarCry or other games more than counter-strike now.

After everything gabe newell spouted on about, I am not getting valve games for any console and since I don't own a PC anymore I think that pretty much means that I wont get any valve games period.

All this does is give more time for people to forget about this title and it won't equate to psoitive sales either with more and more heavy hitter coming down the pipe for the PS3. So in the end they shoot themselves in the foot and will pay dearly because of it.

The reason why EA always fu*ks up on PS3 games is because EA is Micrososfts little bit*h

Valve sprouted how this new Episodic content will bring games more often, and yet they continue taking years per episode. HL2 was nice, but never felt like playing it again. So I didn't get episode1 and won't get episode2.

Gabe even sprouted nonsense against the PS3. Being openly completely hostile against a console, and then porting for it... fu*k them. And damn them for ruining CSS with every new update. It's hardly the game I bought anymore. I bet their code-base is so messed-up that they just delete lines around, test and ship a version that doesn't look bugged in the first 5 minutes. Ah! That's it - they hate what they can't get: A console game must be almost flawless, to be shipped. Sony might have given them the finger, so they spouted nonsense against PS3 :).

True, TF can be interesting, and episode2 might, too ... but there are tons of better games now imho, in terms of replayability.

you do realize there are like 4 games in this one package. you guys are crazy if you think this isn't the best deal any console owner will have ever received. with 4 games in the box if one or two falls behind they all do. and we all know the ps3 is much harder to change code for than from pc to xbox. point is don't get too crazy about this. sure it ticks me off too but man this will be a steal when it finally comes out.

Well DUH!! yall remember that Gabe Newell said that he doesn't care for the ps3 right oh and 360 too. Yet strangely enough the 360 will have this half dead crap released on their half dead crap on the 19th! It sucks how ps3 owners are always catching the shaft behind these money grubbing bastids. Oh well i guess MS paid for their version and so Gabe shook his cow boobs for them. Sony prolly didn't want to put any money up for an already successful franchise which is smart in my opinion. They decide to make ps3 gamers wait. LAZY LAZY LAZY LAZY just like EA games. Amazing, who else can see the same crap going on??

Davin_g , there is a reason they bundled 4 games in one package. As a consumer normally you should be more aware about the content rather than the 4 for 1 sales pitch. Honestly.... the games aren't worth it. And they will be even less worth it if they did a sloppy port. I don't trust em.

This is a PC game for sure. It will be painful for me getting this for my PS3 and probably a lot more expensive for less flexibility. Ditto for Manhunt 2 - I thought about the PSP version but in the end an uncut PC version imported from the Netherlands is probably the smart move.

I dont see Valve putting in much effort to support us anyway considering their attitude towards PS3 and I dont want to be stuck in the middle.

I was looking forward to this game. "Was" as in I doubt it will even be released. I'm getting real sick of these lazy a** developers shafting the PS3 because they would actually have to WORK at developing something for it. Around this time next year EA and Valve will be sucking Sony's Valve anyway...lol

yo number 22. u do no half life is ment to be the best PC shooter and the 4 in 1 deal is fantastic except portal for me but alot will love that, TF2 is said to be a great lookin online game and ill buy that for 40 by its self. this package is worth over 100pounds which is 200 dollars to me

You can buy the whole Orange Box online at Steam for $49 mate. Its very good. You can start playing Team Fortress now (Its great) and play Half Life 2 and Half Life 2 Episode 1 (if you have not already). I think Portal & HL2 Episode 2 are switched on in a week or two.

Valve is probably holding off to see if PS3 sales improve - IE: to see if its worth the effort. I dont think they see PS3 as a big player this time around and as some people above have already suggested - they really just want to work with Microsoft on Windows & Xbox 360. - Fine. Ive got a PC and a few people on this forum in addition to the PS3 also have a 360 so no big deal.

is sony broke? I mean suppose this consipracy theory is true, that M$ is buying off all these devs, and that is why game after game after game on the PS3 is delayed or is a crappy port or both. Why doesnt sony step up to the plate and start to counter? I mean, if that is true, than M$ is truly owning sony. All the news outlets are referring to upset PS3 owners, and the list of delayed PS3 games, and the low quality of PS3 ports. Its getting embarrassing. If M$ is running the show, they are making Sony look like a bunch of minor leaguers. Can this all really be due to M$?

Pees3rulz - I know what you mean and I suspect it's a bit of a few things. Microsoft has lots of surplus money and Sony is in dire need of cash. But it's more than that.

First the money:    After booking $1.6 Billion to cover Xbox 360 Warranties for the next three years, Microsoft still was able to make a $5 Billion profit for the quarter.... $5 Billion in three months!!! They have announced a full year target of US$22.6 Billion - They can buy the whole Sony company lock stock & barrel out of profit. Meanwhile Sony is worth only one third of its former self. It's in debt & selling assets. Some cracks are showing and I think that's worrying developers. Sony are looking a bit out of control and the developers like Namco who use to side with Sony cant afford to loose money on PS3 so they have gone to Microsoft. One by one the publishers are minimising their risk and putting more effort into other platforms - Nintendo is now worth more than Sony and has oodles of cash reserves so MS & Nintendo are safe.

As I said - think it is more than just a money problem. I think Sony is too distracted from core gaming this time around. With PSX & PS2 Sony Computer Entertainment division was 100% focused as a games console & game producer - now its too focused on Bluray movies. It's last loyal partner: Square Enix has even made statements of concern regarding this. They are not the only ones. Konami complained too. Sony are not marketing games like they use to, they wont do any co-operative marketing with any publishers because every cent is going to pay for end cap agreements for retailers to stock Bluray titles.

No one is taking them seriously and dumb idea's like releasing a half dozen different sku's in just eight months isnt helping. The constant sell of PS3 as a multimedia center isnt working. But still they insist on doing it that way, and publishers continue to focus elsewhere. Its a great shame.

The Cleaner your comment is Bull. Sony has  an incredible amount of AAA first and second party games coming out on the PS3 that it refutes the idiotic arguement that Sony  is focusing on Blu ray. With each of their titles pushing 20 mill + its understandable that they have less money to waste on FUD. Sony is about games and functionality and everyone who says otherwise is just plain deluded.
