It's not too common that a PS3 title reaches that elusive number one spot on Japan's software charts. In fact, we'd call it downright rare (except on weeks of huge releases). Despite that stigma, one managed to this week.
Which one? Well, the Japanese sure love their anime, thus Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit surpassed the competition and sold 92,000 copies in its first week of release. What competition? While it did outsell Ninja Gaiden II, Burst Limit more impressively trumped the mighty Wii Fit, a title that everyone can't seem to get enough of.
With Metal Gear Solid 4 out this week, we can't imagine that Burst Limit will spend any longer in the spotlight. All you Dragon Ball fans, enjoy it while it lasts.

it's baffling why squenix is putting those rpgs out for the 360, i mean look at the sales chart!!! PS3 burst limit is at the top, even surpassing NG2

because microsoft will be coughing up some doe for the potential losses in sales DUH !! @ traveler
so could there be a chance for the first time ever 2 ps3 games own the top two spots
@Alti
if you pass that math finals with one hour of sleep your just as bad*ss snake
mgs4 absolutely rocks the best game i have ever played to date i am not exaggerating at all definitely goes to the gaming hall of fame
Lol I bought MGS4 from Play-asia, should recieve it tomorrow, and i got DBZ: Burst Limit pre-ordered like 2 days after i setup pre order for MGS4, that will ship out on monday along my unspoken merchandise....then next thursday they should ship out my copy of Super Robot Taisen A portable.....kinda like christmas....retail therapy rocks ^^
MGS4 = GOAT (for those unaware with the term it stands for Greatest Of All Time)
LOL someone doesn't like Burst Limit coming from that las line "while it lasts" ? Of course stateside MGS4 will do very well now Wii fit idk but that looks fun too. Need to play the OG NG first for me though.
yeah you can't say like this ( enjoy it while it lasts ) soubds like teasing Dragon ball fans :(
btw got mgs4 today xD
psn id: gingo.... wow 2 ps3 titles going to be number one in consecutive weeks that is an extremely rare occasion but we may aswell enjoy it while it lasts
Well, I guess the 360 version of Burst Limit didn't sell that much in Japan?
But I still can't imagine how the new Naruto game for the PS3 will do in its first week.
Yes, enjoy it while it lasts. There are not enough Dragonball Z fans who play games, play the Dragonball games, or for that matter even own consoles. There's a general videogame mass appeal, and MGS sells on the merit its a 'game', it was envisioned as a game, and it was successful as a game--nothing else. As a cartoon and a manga, Dragonball excels and succeeds. As a game series, in some sense, for what it is/worth, it's still successful, due to the amount of fans around the world. It's definitely more well known than most video-games, as it averaged near 4 million viewers on television in America, equal amount in other nations, and plenty more in Japan. Silly me. Why would I even say that? Of course Dragonball is more well known, more popular, and succeeds in practically all adaptations, has a bank larger than any game series combined, and is now getting a $150 million budget film from FOX. D'oh.
@Lattz: Even in its most current, popular form, Naruto is yet to set records higher than Dragonball. History says so. Naruto can't even compete with Avatar, and Ben 10 on American television, Dragonball Z dominated cable in America--even next to all the other forms of entertainment we have here, wiped the floor with our primetime broadcasts, wrestling, and set a record in 2002 as the highest-rated telecast in history(recently surpassed by Ben10), albeit, Dragonball Z owned just about every sales chart- even the tedious videogames at the time, sold far over 1 million copies, on par with many games at the time. There's definitely a decrease of interest in this area for many fans, just because the licensees are milking Dragonball, and not coughing up something "good" for the fans. One thing I tend to agree with.
And Lattz, keep in mind, it's because of things like Dragonball, people were influenced, and inspired to put together such things that exist on our televisions today.
time for mgs4 to take over the world
As I said, MGS is a game series. If any knowledgeable person guesstimated the amount of people buying and playing it, it would be lower than 1 million. It only sells as a game series. Never in anyone's lifetime could or would MGS "take over the world". Gaming world? Perhaps. Billions don't play, millions indifferent, thousands hate--games. Millions play them. You tell me the bigger number.
@ Traveler 1990
I thought as much.I am anxious to see how sales will turn out when sqaure enix releases its rpgs on the 360 in japan. The sales of the upcoming exclusive title Infinite Undiscovering will certainly clear their doubts. They are certainly counting on the european and us markets to raise their software sales. And yep MGS4 will certainly top chart for wbout two weeks when it is released.
Ninja gaiden phenomenon still marvels me.I was pretty sure it was going to top the charts too. What about its sales in europe and the us?? Anyone has any figures???
