Sony’s Kazuo Hirai will brief media Sunday regarding the PlayStation Network hack, marking the first time in this more than week long crisis that an executive of the company publicly discusses the issue.
According to a report from Reuters, Hirai will hold the news conference in Tokyo at 2 p.m. local time (1 a.m. EDT). The executive will discuss Sony’s investigations, its information management, and he will provide a schedule to resume services.
Sony went public with the malicious attack on its PSN service, stating hackers gained access to the 77 million users’ names, addresses, email accounts, and potentially credit card numbers. The company has repeatedly said it doubts hackers had access to credit card numbers, but that hasn’t stopped several government agencies, including the FBI and a U.S. Senator, from investigating the incident and asking for answers. Yesterday we also learned that cybercriminals claim they have 2.2 million credit cards for sale. Sony said the credit card numbers are encrypted, meaning hackers would have a difficult time gaining access to them. The company still warned against potential scams.
