John Koller, Director of Hardware Marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), has confirmed that PlayStation Network now has 14 million active user accounts globally.
Judging by the number of PlayStation 3's sold to date, the figure means an estimated 82 per cent of PS3 owners are now online, with a total of 272 million pieces of content downloaded since the service launched in November 2006.
“PlayStation Network has truly hit its stride with unique downloadable games and a video delivery service featuring movies, TV shows, and original programming that you can watch in HD with your PS3, or bring with you on your PSP, said Koller.
“And with 14 million active accounts and 273 million pieces of content downloaded, we know that you’re thirsting for this digital entertainment.”

... It says active. So i'm guessing they are going by accounts that signed in recently. -

Man, I hope 2/3rds of those people don't care about Home. Cause if they do, they'll NEVER be able to handle all that traffic.

@ #5 Reincarnate... post`s 1 & 2 are only expressing their opinions, no need to tell them to STFU. how are they nerd`s?! please explain. & also how are they boyfriends? do you sit & watch them or something, or did u set them up ?!
UK does need the TV shows & film download service, & i guess some people will find a 'bluray copy to harddrive then psp function' handy, but its not for me.
Anyone has the right to own a ps3, not only the rich etc. so i guess you should SD & then STFU.. u muppet..

I've been saying Pacter is a know-nothing hack for months. Glad my words are proving true. As for a Bluray to PSP converter, it's never going to happen. You best bet is to just buy movies that offer the Digital copy either as a download or an extra disk you put in your computer.

@ 2 and 17
You can rip and convert some DVDs using your PC. Allows for more flexibility I know here in Canada, it is still legal to rip them. Not in the US though due to the DMCA. Not sure what the law is in the UK though. The proposed SD versions of BD movies for PSP that Sony was talking about months ago are the DRMed digital copies they include on disc with some films. We badly need a legal, DRM free alternative for portable movie formats though as has been done with music.
