PSP needs more games in Europe, admits Reeves

Posted on May 10th, 2008 at 05:42 EDT

David Reeves, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), has expressed his desire to see more software released for the PlayStation Portable in the territory.

Publisher release schedules reveal little in the way of new titles for the portable gaming device, with a notable lack of PSP exclusive content in the region. Sierra Entertainment in particular currently has no new PSP titles on the horizon, despite remaining committed to the PlayStation 2.

Furthermore, Sony itself detailed on two new PSP titles at its recent PlayStation Day event in London earlier this week, namely EchoChrome and Buzz! Quiz Master.

Speaking to Gamesindustry.biz, Reeves commented on the situation facing the handheld in Europe, stating, "Hand on heart, would we like more PSP games? Yes, we would. We really would.”

Despite this, the handheld system continues to sell impressively in its native Japan, clocking up 1.6 million sales so far this year ahead of Nintendo’s DS.

"It's phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal,” Reeves said of the PSP’s success in Japan.

"We've seen in the last six months that because of the success of the PSP in Japan many Japanese developers have got some absolutely phenomenal games. They're not Monster Hunter 2G or things like that, but they are in development and we'll see them over here," he said.

They should release more Japanese IPs on Europe.

Good games (RPGs) tend to be Japan only and some of them would have a very good chance of proving its worth on European soil.

PSP needs more games period! Not just in Europe. Ever since I beat GOW I have nothing to play on PSP, and I'd rather play echocrome on PS3. Give us more PSP titles, Sony.
