According to Media Create, the Sony's PSP has outsold the DS again this week, sitting at the top of the charts with nearly 280k units sold.

Here are the numbers for Japan:

- PSP: 277,794
- DS Lite: 70,523
- Wii: 24,992
- PS2: 11,373
- PS3: 10,732
- Xbox 360: 1,687

The cause behind this monster spike in PSP sales? You can thank Square Enix and Konami for that. The top two titles in software sales are PSP games, one of course being Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and the other being Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, with combined sales of over 200k.

With sales looking great in Japan, we can only hope the same will occur when these titles hit the US and UK.

Stay tuned to PSU for more information when next week's sales figures are released.

Lets just hope once MGS4 and FFXIII comes out, it'll bring the sales up on the PS3!

I can see PS3 overselling all the consoles in Japan before it happens here in the States.

    "well , i see Halo 3 hasn't affect the 360 sales in japan ... PS3 still outsells it by 10 : 1"

Of course, do you think the Japanese eat the hype like we do here in the States?  Halo 3 is a good game, but nothing revolutionary like the media wants you to believe.  I'd rather play Lair and Heavenly Sword than yet another 360 shooter.  Bioshock is better.

Thats crazy. After the first week PSP reached just short of 100K all thanks to the 77K crisis core PSP bundles that was release. I think about 500K copies of Crisis Core was sold as well, As the crisis core bundle was a limited edition and was sold out in the first week, for the second week my guess was that the sales of PSP would be 50K-80K. I think thats what I wrote Somewhere on here. . 280K for this week gone wow the sales rose dramatically again. Near 380K in 2 weeks what will the sales for next week be?

I hope this is mostly new costomers and not current owners replacing their old with the new, very much like nearly every DS owner did when DS lite came out. You have to knock about 15 mill sales of the DS the find how many DS owners they're are.

Gla to hear people recognize the system atleast for the one game, now if they'd just take notice of all the other games. Ultimately I still dont think the PSP wil beat the DS or GBA but holding a respectable secondplace in a market that has routinly dumped any other competitor is a remarkable accomplishment, One that should have been easier for such a cool device, now if they'd just find away to enable straight AVI playback...

its not hard to see why even if final fantasy and mgs helped. the major reason i think is because of the psp remake its still new and naturally people will want it more.

I just got my PSP Piano Black Slim model this past Thursday and wow!!!  I had the original PSP some years back and sold it because I wasn't to happy with it along with the games that were out at the time.  I must say I am so happy with this new PSP Slim model in every way.  It's a nice side piece to my PS3.  I have Jeanne D'Arc that I'm currently playing, and looking forward to FF: Crisis Core, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles.  PS3/PSP, it's in the box!!!

wow thats good news to hear the PSP sales have spiked like that. If games like FF:CC which is a prequel to FF7 and MG:PO do have something to do with the sales then I can't wait to see what FF13 and MGS4 do for the PS3 sales let alone done the later years a possible remake of FF7
