PSP to get DivX certification in new firmware update?

A little less than a month ago the PS3 received DivX certification allowing it to play all DivX video files on the multi-functional gaming console. Now rumor has it that Sony’s other multi-functional system, the PSP, will be receiving the same certification in a future firmware update.

The PSP has generated alot of excitement over the past week , one specific new feature that was announced at CES was that future Blu-Ray movies would be packaged with a copy of the film on the Blu-Ray disc that would be optimized for the PSP, as well as be easily transferable to the PSP. This has been one of the more exciting features out of a group that includes Skype for the PSP, a GPS add-on, and an Internet Radio feature released in the last PSP firmware update.

This rumored DivX feature that is set to appear on the PSP and will allow users to download movies and TV shows through the PlayStation PC store, transferred from PS3, and from selected third party online retailers. The new feature is said to be available with firmware update 4.0 which may be released within the next two months.

Currently the PSP’s firmware version is 3.80. Stay tuned for any updates of this latest rumor.
