With the New Year upon us, it's time look back at the games that have graced our PlayStation 3's and congratulate the best of them for helping us through the ups and downs of 2007.
The Game of the Year award goes to the title that provides both a creative new experience in its genre and solid gameplay. Not only that, but titles must exhibit other key factors, such as those which have mystified us with intriguing stories, beautiful graphics, lush sounds, and most importantly the addiction to continue coming back for more.
So, now you know what it is we’re looking for, why not join us and find out just what it is we picked for this prestigious award? Read on to find out.
Game of the Year:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Why Call of Duty 4?
There’s no question that since its very inception, Call of Duty 4 presented no doubt that it was the best game on the PlayStation 3 platform thus far. By providing both a great single player experience in it's short, yet satisfying storyline and unlockable arcade modes and it's ever so addicting online multiplayer, we knew Call of Duty 4 would be the perfect candidate for Game of the Year.
As a first person shooter, Call of Duty 4 raises the bar for all competitors in the genre - bringing picturesque graphics at 60fps, enticing modern day war storyline, tight/responsive controls, and one of the best online modes available. All together, Call of Duty 4 succeeds in nearly every department, making it a must own for PlayStation 3 gamers.
Runners Up:
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
In Uncharted, players are cast in the role of adventurer Nathan Drake who is in pursuit of the legendary treasure of El Dorado, said to be located on a remote Island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. However, upon arriving, Drake and his entourage find themselves hunted by a band of blood-thirsty mercenaries, and must employ a variety of weapons and survivalist tactics to thwart their enemies to uncover the Island's many secrets.
Considered by many as the poster child for the PS3’s handsome visual capabilities, Uncharted is filled to the brim with sprawling jungle landscapes, ominous ruins and long-lost underground catacombs that are simply dripping with atmospheric touches. Featuring a stylish blend of gun combat, exploration and a stellar voice cast and motion-capture set up, Uncharted is rivalled only by Call of Duty 4 as the best the PS3 has to offer last year.
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
The dynamic due of Ratchet and Clank make their next-generation debut with Tools of Destruction on PlayStation 3, serving up one of the best platform titles of 2007 on any consoles, hands down. After taking a well-earned rest from the usual shenanigans of intergalactic bad guy bashing, Ratchet and Clank find themselves thrust back into action after the notorious Emperor Percival Tachyon invades the city of Metropolis.
Sporting new weapons, manoeuvres and integrated Sixaxis tilt control functionality, Tools of Destruction takes players on the duo’s biggest adventure yet, driven by gorgeous, sprawling environments and all-new storyline delivered by the talented boys down at Insomniac Games. It’s no wonder it pipped many to the post as contender for Game of the Year.

I would of said Uncharted, because you can never get onto a game and it crashes.

i have COD4 and Uncharted and agree that both deserve the respective 1st and 2nd places. Uncharted has superb graphics and was a really enjoyable game. well done naughty dog.. Only thing missing on COD4 is co-op mode both online and off, as it is good fun blasting through the story ,line misions with ya mates, just like you could on resistance

I also have both COD4 & Uncharted and I must say in all my years of gameplay on every platform that these two games are hands down the BEST to date. But look out, here comes MGS4. But I would have selected Resistance in third place instead of Ratchet.

COD4 Rocks! It really set the bar for shooters to come. This game looks amazing on the PS3 especially in 1080p at 60fps. Great gameplay and graphics. Online is a bit shady but worth laying. The frame rate manages to stay consistent for the most part. Uncharted is a definite runner up but COD4 replayability factor is insane and addictive.

I never liked 1st person shooter games until I got COD4 (I bought it before even trying it) and now I'm hooked and can't wait for the new COD on PSP... Uncharted was also a great game and I will probably be replaying them over and over which I usually don't, most games once I'm done with, I put them away and never touch them again...

I haven't touch any other game (beside KOF XI)....since I got COD4. That game is amazing. I remember when I was addicted to RFoM.....now I only touch that game to move it out of my way. My assassin creed is still untouched because I can't put COD4 down. But I think after one more Prestige Mode, I will give it a rest ....but I do agree, it deserves GOTY. Well done Infinity Ward...well done.

My first post on PSU.
i would vote Uncharted its got a great story/gameplay. and the character acting is ace.
i would of voted COD4 but the online needs a vast improvement with in-game messaging, in game buddy list. i got kinda tired of the single player, but thats not why i bought COD 4 onlines the only thing that matters in this game

I agree COD4 is best - I wish it had a cover system though then it would be a 10 in my book. for now its a 9. Uncharted is a very very close second for me - more weapons & interactions in Uncharted would have been nice ie: whip, bow, things like that, o well maybe in Uncharted 2.

I think that Warhawk, while not the best game ever made, has been extremly under rated. In my opinion Uncharted has been one of the more over rated games this year for the ps3. It is a good game and all, but not a must have.

Cod4 is a tough game and, I am not even into war shooters. Uncharted is a great too maybe they should share game of the year. Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitz shared NBA MVP one year.

IMO, it's more of a very close call between COD4 and Uncharted. Aside from multi-player availablity, I think Uncharted would just be on top! IMO only. :)

Easily game of the year was COD 4 best online game to date bar resistance. Uncharted deserves second never first cause it don't have multiplayer. I completed uncharted once on normal then on hard and found all the treasures in 4 days. I have been playing COD 4 since it came out in november.
