Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has posted his latest US hardware estimations ahead of official NPD figures, putting Sony’s PlayStation 3 ahead of Xbox 360 for the month of August 2008.
Pachter forecast PS3 sales of 225,000, beating out Microsoft’s competing platform at 200,000, with the Wii taking the lead again at 550,000 units sold.
Furthermore, the analyst expects overall software sales to exceed USD 600 million, a year-on-year increase of 23 per cent.
"We don't believe that Wii sell-through increased dramatically in August, as we did not see incremental supply at retail. The company promised that supplies would increase during the summer due to higher manufacturing capacity coming online some time in July, but we believe that the higher supply began to show up only in September,” noted Pachter.
NPD figures will be released on Thursday, September 11.

Thanks, I know I can't believe it, its out of the warranty as well, so sony are sending me a refurbished one. Not crazy on the idea but Im not paying £200 to have it fixed I cant afford it right now with bills to pay etc.
I heard its only a 1% failure what ticks me off is its used a couple of hours a day less than my friends. Who play cod4 literally all night.
On the plus Sony said they would send a replacement tomorrow, are refurbished consoles ok, I mean I don't want something that is dented and scratched?

wow, the PS3 has been ouselling 360 nearly every month since november 2007. that is sad on 360's part
honestly with 360 pricecuts, who would still buy a 360, anyone that wanted one already has one

@ryesher, if all the great games coming out it's ashame to spend so much on fixing your PS3, I got my console on day 1 and got 250hrs gameplay withh ff12 and 2 days with cod4 online not to mention 150hrs with GTA4, glad i still have 18months garantee left!

I didn't think people would care any more about the PS3/360 race.
I thought everyone would be too busy enjoying what the consoles offer through their games at this point. But going by some responses, it looks like I was wrong.
Of course Pachter has been wrong before, but he has been right often enough to be given some credit. Either way, I don't care.
The PS3 offers me what I want compared to any other platform (still) and tahts all taht matters to me.
