Pachter forecasts strong PlayStation family sales for '09

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that software sales across Sony’s PlayStation family of consoles will account for approximately 31 percent of all global videogame sales during 2009.
The outspoken analyst indicated in Wedbush’s annual Interactive Industry Report that although sales of PlayStation 2 software have dwindled in recent months, PS3 worldwide game sales have more than doubled since last year.
2008 saw a total of 62.4 million PS3 games shifted, marking a substantial rise over 2007’s total, which clocked in at 29.6 million. This spike looks set to continue for the remainder of this year, with Pachter believing that both PS3 and PSP will make up for the decline in PS2's retail performance.
PS3 looks set to come out on top, despite Pachter’s belief that Sony won’t "secure significant third party exclusivity" as it attempts to "to focus its internal development efforts on blockbuster games.”
2009 sees the release of a number of heavy hitters for Sony’s black box, including Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Massive Action Game.

So you posted to complain about someone wasting space when essentially what you're doing is the same? Still though, it's always fun to complain about First-posters, and is always worth the effort.
Anyway... Michael Pachter? Pah, I don't believe anything he says any more, I only read this article to see what more bullcrap he's potentially come up with in hopes I can get a light laugh. I didn't.

@Daniels. I agree. I don't get the whole "first" thing. Are we supposed to be impressed by someone's ability to reply to a story first with nothing to say?
Anyway, I sorta agree with Michael Patcher. The 360 is 199.99 and hasn't really sold at an amazing pace. A large amount of the people that owned a PS2, and probably bought a Wii, still haven't picked up a 360. Blu-ray was probably a short-term liability but a long-term vital inclusion within the PS3. I think things will really pick up when A) the global recession turns around and B) Sony drops the price.

I was gonna just leave the first paragraph without typing anything relevant to the actual article, but feared it would lead to the comments being flooded with complaints as to why the first three posters are wasting space by complaining about wasting space, which would leave the whole comments section full of people complaining about eachother for doing the exact same as what they're complaining about.
I should've done that.

This guy must smile at the money he is making. by getting sites like this to regurgitate what he says there for enabling him to promote himselve even more as an industry expert because he is quoted and talked about so much.
It reminds me of those hollywood icons that bring nothing to the table but thier names.

@5 the $200.00 hasnt sold that well because people realize it is a $200.00 piece of junk, it doesnt even come with a hdd. but i agree with the article i think software sales will be very good this year, because again Playstation has all the best games like last year

I never understood the whole "360 is cheaper" arguement. A 360 with a 60gb hdd and wireless internet adapter is $400. That's the same price as a PS3.... and it doesn't play blu rays.
Back to this topic. I hope he's right. Many prognosticators have predicted that the PS3 will do well down the road. And with Sony's list of exclusive titles, it's easy to see why they think this way. Still... this guy's a moron.

@7,9,11,14,15, I couldn't agree more. This guy is a total clown, some say get bent, he should get nocked, smoked, tossed and whatever else you can say on PSU.
The thing I like about Pachter is he is always going to be remembered from us guys in that way. (Hollywood name, Love it)

Hey PSU can you just photoshop a big rubber chicken sticking though his head to show what a "wild and crazy guy" he is? at this point he's forcasted every year in favor of the PS3 and frankly I'm starting to think this guy is the REASON it never has been. As much as I love my PS3 no amount of telling people what they want to hear will make it happen, OR make us suddenly like a guy that's put his foot in his mouth more than a foot fetishist.

I think PSN just likes to get us readers riled up. It should be obvious by now that printing anything involving what some analyst thinks is a waste. NO ONE CARES. We're tired of their stupid predictions. We may as well start getting articles about every rumor out there because that's what analysts have been doing: reporting rumors.

@2 lol,anyway some of what that pachter guy said is true,ps2 is starting to collapse,ps3`s situation is getting better and better, but in my opinion psp`s sales arent as relative as ps3`s,it`s completely independent,i really want to see psp`sales higher than ds`sales,that nintendo company is like he//.on earth
