Atari boss Phil Harrison has extolled Sony’s efforts with its social networking phenomenon, PlayStation Home, stating that his former employer has "brilliantly realised their ambitions".
Speaking at an Atari press event earlier this week, Harrison spoke of his involvement in the Home beta, affirming his belief that Sony "will have a very successful platform.”
Home is expected to enter its open beta stage before the end of the year following numerous delays.
Harrison also admitted he has been tinkering about with Microsoft’s improved Xbox 360 dashboard:
"I was quite impressed actually with some of the things that [Microsoft has] done," he said. “They're just scratching the surface of what the whole industry recognises is that customisation, socialisation and community platforms are going to be just as important as the games themselves."

IIRC a lot of the features promised will not be available at launch, such as streaming audio and video. I sure hope those features will not become vaporware. I'd love to see Home grow even bigger and better (and faster) in the next couple of years.

Relax you guys that havent gotten in yet, I've been in there from the begining and while it's improved quite a bit since the days of Phil It still need some time in the cooker. Dont rush to be in a beta just because it's an early chance to use it, wait until it's a much smoother product with more of what it has to have.
Frankly I think they're going to push to fix the things related to GAMING before they do trivial things like video and audio streaming as those can be abused far too easily. The worst thing you could do is create an environment that alienates the commercial property owners that plan to support home by allowing people to side step around them. I mean what if there were a Warner Brothers Home spot and they were showing bits of The Dark Knight only to have you hop into your Home with some friends and stream a bootleg off your harddrive. Might be just a little awkward.
Concentrate on things like the virtual Troophy room and multiplayer game launching.
