damn with these kinda of deals I cant see how the PS3 can't sell. I wonder if Xbox has anything to counter these great discount prices.
What is Black Friday all about, I'm from Australia so I don't understand it all.
"Sony 46" 1080p LCD HDTV with free PS3 80GB System with MotorStorm and Home Theater Installation - $1999.98" - in Russia it's something like:
Sony 46" 1080p LCD HDTV = ~$3500,
PS3 = ~$750...
I bought my 32" Philips HDTV by $1500, and "PS3 StarterPack" by $850
psn id: gingo... wow some of these deals are really really good i wish the UK hd something like this before christmas
Zarajoe,
Some people refer to it as Black Friday because of the hectic nature in which consumers race to the stores for the best deals. However, there is also an answer that lies in an accounting context.
It's called "Black Friday" because it usually marks the point in the year where most Brick & Mortar stores break into the "black" on their financial statements, meaning they are now making a profit for the year. On financial statements, red numbers are for negatives and black numbers are for positives. So if a company is losing money in their net profit section, the numbers would be red.
Before the friday after the Thanksgiving holiday, nearly all physical stores have operating expenses, overhead costs and goods/materials costs that outweigh their profits. When you are operating at a net loss (aka losing money on your business for the month), it's considered that you are "in the red" because any negative profits are signified with red numbers. But then when the holiday season heats up and consumers are shopping non stop, they finally start to make back all of those expenses with revenue and start turning a profit, and typically "Black Friday" is the first day that their numbers get back into the black column.
Hope that helped.
