PlayStation Phone on the way

As a company, Sony has always had its hand in all assets of technology. Although the gaming division, Sony Computer Entertainment, is generally of high importance to us, the firm is also known for its high quality HDTVs, cameras and mobile phones.
We've already seen what can happen when gaming and cell phones collide - the infamous N-gage. However, what happens when one of the largest gaming companies in the industry steps up to the task to take a stab at a previously unsuccessful market?
We'll soon find out as the Sony Ericsson gaming head, Peter Ahnegard, recently announced the existence of a PlayStation-branded phone. No official name has been announced for the PSP... wait. That acronym's already taken, so we'll just call it the PS Phone for now.
When asked about a launch date for the newly announced phone/gaming device, Ahnegard responded quite vaguely.
"It's obviously something that we're looking at but right now I can't really comment. Before Christmas, certainly... but exactly which Christmas I can't confirm!"
We'll have more news for you on the PS Phone when it becomes available.

The way I see it, all they have to do is just make a phone that's easier to use for the games that already exist. I'm sorry but the Razr is just not a good game platform. The Sidekick is like a glirified PSP already but I dont know if the games are any good. So just make a way for phones to play games and play themm better than you can on a stupid keypad and things will be fine.

I'm not too sure about this. I'm all for new technology or making previously unsuccessful technology successful but I just don't think that phones and gaming should be mixed. I'd rather keep these markets seperate. I guess we'll just have to wait and see though. Maybe Sony can make the impossible happen and really tap into this market.

There is no way sony would ever let this suck, when have they ever made a product that has failed, when have they made a product that hasn't been revolutionary

That doesn't mean it's coming. They just didn't rule it out. I think they might do it though. I just don't think it will be another gaming platform. What I mean is, it will be a Playstation themed phone....kinda like the phone Sony had for Casino Royale.
I can be wrong.....but this is what I think might happen.

so... What will this phone even look like? A gaming console... OH NO... I know, the PSP2... Oh yeah
Because this way, they can give it that sidekick look and add some phone technology, that is why it is part of the PlayStation family.
Please Sony Please, let it be the PSP2... OMG!!! Thats why he said he dont know what Christmas, because its no time soon. Oh Yeah

Possibility: Since PlayStationPortable and PlayStationPhone have the same acronym maybe the new PSP will also be the PS Phone. I've also heard that the PSP would be getting a phone a lot before this.

Gaming hasnt been the biggest phenomenon when it comes to mobiles,it will however be interesting to see if Sony actually succeeds in this.

This is called an invitation to treat. The retailer is under no obligation to sell. What that means is that means is that they can withdraw their offer to sell their goods. Lair, in my case, isn't on sale yet so Amazon can legally change their offer unfortunately :(

One of those fine lines to walk. Like Xomaniac said, could be interesting or it could suck which is pretty much the truth with anything. Cost will also make a huge impact. I won't pay $500 for a phone, heck I'm reluctant to pay even $100 for one.

I thought it was a good article besides the "wait.. that acronym is already taken" bit.
It was stupid imo.
