Rein: No split screen for PS3 UT3

Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games, has dashed hopes of split screen multiplayer coming to the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3.
He was speaking to VideoGamer.com at Midway's Gamers Day last week when he broke the news:
"I don't think so, because this is what's in this (the Xbox 360 version) game. I think it would be a big job to go back and retrofit that game for split-screen. I just don't think we have the resources to do that unfortunately."
When UT3 ships for Xbox 360 later this year it will include split screen online multiplayer across all modes except for ranked games (to prevent cheating). Although this is likely to be a popular feature, Rein believes PS3 owners have something just as juicy:
"They've got mods! They've got their thing. They've got easily exchangeable user created mods. Whether this game gets that or not, it won't have it at ship. They've got they're thing and they should be happy. They've got a great thing going."
So perhaps the argument is about what you value more: mod support or split screen multiplayer. Which is your pick? Leave a comment below...

The story of gaming life, lies, all lies. he says PS3 has its thing, and he says that xbox has its thing, splitscreen and he doesnt know whether xbox will get what ps3 has got, user stuff. Ill bet that the xbox gets the User created stuff.
I remember how people praised this bloke and how UT3 was gonna be an exclusive, hes just tryna make a bit more money. Robber, and thats how itll always be, hes forgotten about the PS3 now, and wont bother with it until hes sold UT3 on xbox and wants a bit more cash.

I would much rather have had split screen. While it is nice to have new maps and characters, you can't play them with your friends. It's obvious they rushed out the ps3 version to get thier Christmas bucks, but I would rather have had them take their time and fix the online play and have added split screen.

No split screen is usually a deal-breaker for me, but this time I caved. Most games I won't get it w/o splitscreen. I look forward to getting the new Motorstorm, as the last one was not worth buying for me. I love that PS3 has on-line, but I hate that a lot of game makers have neglected the players that would normally sit next to me.

I love that we get mods, but not having splitscreen is the reason why i dont play it anymore ( and no ranking), im a family man, and most of my fam grew up playin games with me, so splitscreen is very important to me, Cod4 splitscreens is ok, but is nothing compared to the online, i stopped playin burnout paradise for that reason, i love warhawk, but you know how cool it wouldve been to play offline splitscreen.............well i dont know about you guys but i would kill to have more splitscreen multiplayer(on and offline) on my ps3, i already have 6 controlers, im just waitin on the perfect game to use them.......................

The games great and all... But the guys a bit of a d!ck turning around and saying, " they have their thing, they should be happy". It's like he's speaking about two different races of people, and then saying, O.K., the blacks have their area, and the whites have theirs, they should all be happy".
I mean then this turd continues on to say PS3 owners are not worth giving spltscreen to, but we'll rub it in(the biggest gripe people had with the game), by giving the feature exclusively to 360, then going on and saying that PS3 has mods over 360 version until it gets later after shipping via patch.
At least with Epics past online track record, PS3 owners can take solace in the fact that the 360 version will not escape the constant and sometimes horrendous lag these games have suffered on consoles since the xbox1 days.

Split screen and acheivements vs. mods and the option to use mouse and keyboard... sounds like the PS3 version is just a bit better overall. And check out the action cam mode where u cand play in an over-the-shoulder view, its pretty cool. But as for the split screen, well, there's alway Haze. If 2 player is fun, then 4 player split screen will be fun times 2!

MODS ARE BETTER, HANDS DOWN! Split screen just cuts the resolution down a bit, and detail, would be kind of hard to see at times.

AND now it's been confirmed that X360 will get MODS along with Split-screen! What's next i wonder? I bet it'll also look a little better on the X360. So we will end up with a rushed inferior version of UT3!!!

I would rather have splitscreen, and i think it´s a slap in the face to say that we should be happy with mod.

MODS! MODS! MODS! Xbots might have to pay for theirs lol. PS3 is the better machine to use for UTIII. Keyboard and mouse support is great, lots of mods and mutators. Xbots have no say. I would expect the game to look a little better on the xbox360 because they would have had time to fix certain problems that hampered it for the PS3 and other games that used the Unreal Engine.
