Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCE) has confirmed that the revamped PlayStation Store will not be region locked.

Speaking to Gaming-Age.com, the company has "confirmed that no changes to the store will be made as part of this revamp relating to region locking".

As with the current PS Store, this will allow users who have multiple accounts to download content to their PlayStation 3 from outside of their specified region, a feature that has become increasingly popular among users.

The redesigned PlayStation Store is scheduled to go live in mid-April.

Nice, never really understood why they were region locked in the first place when you could just make another account "pretending" to be from that region...

from that I understand that it will stay as it is. And right now its region locked right? So doesnt that mean that it will remain locked?

great, doing this they can reduce the number of unnecesary accounts, for example I have 3...and i don't have to switch user for any reason. Sony is starting to do things well.

Im with Solar20 I dont get this article at all. In one instance it says that i wont be locked and in another it says it wont change meaning it will remain locked. Soooooo what is it??? locked or unlocked???

thank god, sony couldnt afford to do that anyway, cuz with how ****** up the EU store and how diiferent they all are, if the y region locked it then the ps community would prolly blow sony up,

I understood it as the changes to the store, will be the same in each region...

Hopefully that also means future updates in the matter of content!

you people should read and understand!!!!!! region locked means that if you have a UK machine you cannot access anything on PSN Stores outside the uk whether use hold a US or JPN account or Vice Versa. Region unlocked means that you can access the PSN Store from your UK machine if you have the relevant accounts, just as it is at the moment so it will stay the same Region Unlocked!!!!! its not rocket science people!!!!!!!!!

To me, "region unlocked" would mean that you can access all content from a single account. In those terms, the store is currently region locked, and that won't be changing. So you'll still need 3 accounts set up to access the Euro, US and Japanese stores.

This article is confusing and misleading.

#mayhemmusic: I think you are wrong on that one. U can access US, JPN, Hong Kong and so on regardless what kind of machine you have now.. But I think it means that future uploads will be the same on US, EU and JPN. but for now, they would update the stores to similar content. THIS also explains why Xbox is getting the new map-pack today and not PS3. Because the PS store is "down" until the new shop comes up

Guys, GUYS!  Here's the damn quote:

"AS WITH THE CURRENT PS Store, THIS WILL ALLOW users who have MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS to download content to their PlayStation 3 from OUTSIDE of their specified region, a feature that has become increasingly popular among users."

In other words, you can still get stuff from foreign stores (with made foriegn accounts).  With the revamp, they COULD HAVE made it so you can't, but they are NOT.  There STILL HAS TO BE SEPARATE STORES for the obvious reason, but everone will still be able to access them.  Get it?

@Soraz: "Nice, never really understood why they were region locked in the first place when you could just make another account "pretending" to be from that region..."

I think it's mostly because of that it was built as a server for a hompage and because of some people have bad connection they had to make servers in each teritory and because of that they had to get the PS3 out of the fabrics they didnt have time to connect the servers. And there for they needed to upgrade each server manually. And the guys in EU maybe wasn't as rapid as US and Japan.

Just a guess from my side! =) Btw, Very nice to see as a user of EU store!

I was just about to make a new acount, but I waited to because I that I heard about the redesign and that it shouldnt be driven by PS3s browser. And I was right! =D

It shouldn't be region locked in the first place.  We wouldn't have to make multiple accounts if Sony could make all the stores fair.  Japan store gets everything first.  Europe never really has anything, but that's due to SCEE's problems.  US store gets trailers and overpriced songs and it counts as a "good update."  I understand it's free, but you can't pull people away from paying $50 a year with no content in your updates.

i noticed that almost no one understands what this article is saying. this bothered me so badly that i actually registered for psu just to clear this up, cuz i cant stand people getting the incorrect info from it.

they're saying that there are NO CHANGES MADE meaning that it is EXACTLY HOW IT IS NOW.

it DOES NOT SAY that there will be one combined store

what it says is that the stores will NOT be region-locked, meaning people who live, for example, in the US will still be able to use their Japanese accounts (if they have one), etc.

if they were region-locked, then it would mean, same example, that the US player would not be able to access the store on his Japanese account because he does not live in Japan.

i hope i cleared it up... that was bothering me so much

This arcitle was kinda confusing really, but if its true then Sony has started to see what their customers are doing. And evolving after them. Good job sony.

If only thet would p1ss off thos stupid credit card region thing, and allow us to buy whatever we want from any region.  That way I could buy Castlevania, as it has been months, and still no U.K./Aus release.

Sony, allow us to buy what we want from any region store.   It maximises your cashflow faster, and means consumers aren't forced to wait, and punished because they are not "Privelaged" enough to be yanks.
