Rock Band 2 coming this year

IGN has conducted an interview with the Lead Designer at Harmonix, Dan Teasdale, and has came away with a bit of information regarding the sequel to the hit-title Rock Band. One of the key points made during the interview process was the announcement that you can expect Rock Band 2 to be stateside sometime before the end of 2008. This may feel like a kick to the face for PAL users as they have still yet to receive the original Rock Band title.
Some of the other points of interest may be that all of your Rock Band DLC will be 100% compatible with Rock Band 2. Unlike Activision's Guitar Hero franchise which continually forces you to redownload and pay for new content with each installment, Rock Band creators, Harmonix, feel that you should be able to transfer this over because it is basically the same game with upgraded features.
Something that will please owners of the original Rock Band is that DLC for Rock Band 2 will also be compatible with their title as well. So this 100% compatibility will be used both ways.
If you'd like to check out the complete interview, feel free to click here.

So, Rock Band 2 will go up against Guitar Hero IV, interesting. Right now I'm loving how the Guitar Hero IV drum set looks like, so Rock Band 2's better have a better one if they want my money :P

EA can get stuffed.
No doubt they'll rob European gamers on the price again.
Double the price is compared to US gamers is just wrong. -

You may also want to include that it will be released for the 360 in September and the PS3 version will be released later in 2008.
"Microsoft has been a great partner for 'Rock Band,'" said Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, which oversees the "Rock Band" franchise. "It's just so easy to download the content using the Xbox 360 system. It's evolved into a great marketing partnership as well. They'll really blow it out for us."
This maybe the reason they are releasing it first on the 360, but either way I think it is stupid to seperate console release dates just because one did better. That may offend PS3 user's and they may not purchase the game. A smart game developer would release the lower selling console first in hope of them seeing "Hey we care about you PS3." Or just release them on the same dates. Showing favoritism toward one console is not smart in this Next Gen. battle because the PS3 is just barely being discovered in a developers viewpoint. Maybe when they need a more powerful console to make a game we wont want them cause they are little 360 fanboys.
This was a slap in the face to loyal PS3 user's and Sony. Hey Harmonix, who stood by you when you made such games as Frequency, Amplitude, and the original GH series? Oh thats right...... SONY AND PS2/PS3 USERS! Harmonix are sellout's and the fact that they launched exclusive for 360 has already caused many loyal Playstation fans to walk out.The quote mentioned above can be found at the link below:

So....why would you get RB2 if you can use RB2 songs with RB1? By the way, trust no franchise that can come out with two iterations in the same year.

Man, I dunno why everyone is freaking out about. I think a RB2 this year would be awesome. It was last Nov when we first got RB1 and RB2 just means more songs, possibly new feature etc. Then, we get to use all of the downloaded songs from RB1 and kabam! Frack, GH already has areosmith out, working on metallica and IV - AND not having downloaded tracks work with newer versions. I say it's Activision who's taking gamers for ride for - with their money.

The fact that it's coming to 360 first might mean a no buy for me. They better have the most awesome setlist I've ever seen if they want me to buy it because the early release is bs. I hope GHWT comes out before RB2 so that it can steal some PS3 sales of RB2.

i'll definately get this one. Just hope they improve alot the guitar (and the wireless sensor, cause its really hard to get starpower by lifting your guitar, unlike guitar hero that it senses the movement prety quickly) and the drum set, if they leave it the same, i wont ocmplain, but ill be happy if the make id different, with more things to smash and more difficult :P

Wow this is a slap in the face to ps3/wii/ps2 owners, how has M$ been overseeing the development on a 3rd party game(mulitplat). They make it sound like M$ is fully funding RB. then have have the audacity to say "It's just so easy to download the content using the Xbox 360 system"

Yeah it's clear M$ dropped another load of cash for a exclusivity window, I doubt seriously that live was any better for them to deliver content with than the PSN store, especially when we use actual monetary amounts. On the other hand since all DLC is compatible it's no big deal, we'll all still be getting the same downloadable songs. I doubt we'll even need new instruments unless they get around to making the old ones more durable. (seriously they need to make that peddle stronger) So I dont realy care since I can still play the old one until it comes to PS3.
The BIG question though is what will the new game have? If it's just like new clothes to buy and an online bandworld tour mode that they could have patched into the first game then that's incredibly lame. I still like RB much better than GH though since It's not so hardcore that I can't play beyond a certain skill level without growing more fingers and an extra cerebral hemisphere, the graphics are still betteron GH, the presentation still cooler and they dont have that dopey battle set up where the song is ruined buy fighting the other player, I want the song to sound BETTER as I play not worse because I have to screw up my opponent. Hopefully we'll also see the ability to create our own music.

Call me a fan-boy for saying this but, I don't care. Seeing how Microcok waves it's green all the time to get it first or to get extra crap for something that's going to be on other platforms anyways, just goes to show that they don't have very much confidence in there system. All they can say is, XBL, XBL, XBL, XBL, did we mention XBL. This pisses me off and screw Harmonix for being sell outs, and not taking care of our PAL brothers. Whatever, it's a fab anyway, and it's gettting old very quick.
@ Alpha 2 - Seems like Harmonix is going to make in all new set of better instruments for RB2, and get this cross-plat DLC. Does this mean that X-box and PS3 are going to get diffrent DLC?

No. In the IGN article they say that the cross platform DLC means only that RB 1 and RB2 can use the same songs. So we can get songs for either game from the same source.
I wouldnt call HMX sellouts EA/MTVgames pays their bills and the people who pay THEIR bills make the ultimate decision. Notice that he says they have been "supporters" all that means is the load of cash that M$ hit EA with goes to fund their projects so EA says "give it to them first."
At IGN they show a picture of the new guitar which looks a lot like the old one but is painted to look evem more realistic. They claim that the new instruments will have more customization which I assume means decals but it could mean other things. Fromt he sound of the way they're responding to feed back I think they're quietly saying they know they need to make them stronger and make the drums a little quieter too.

That sounds amazing. Both DLC is compatible? Great. Its things like this is the reason people like some games more than others, Its the little things. I would be willing to bet that it won't come by the end of this year. I'm expecting delays to early next year

I know i shouldnt care about the UK. but the way i look at it EA is dumb by thinking Americans like rock more lmaoo like come on. The UK love sing star and GH. but they think Rock Band wont sell. i could be wrong but Rock Band might just not be Bought unless they come up with a better drum set. and a better market idea.

Yeah great we still cant get ROCK BAND 1 in the UK.
@ Dave you cant say that, so ok the exchange rate is about $2 to £1 but add up the cost of Rock Band when it eventually gets released thats £180 = $360. I believe that Rock Band list price is $170 Dollars in the US.
additionally I have been following the prices for the 360 and the fact that it was stated by EA that the price would be brought down and not sold at the RRP this is not the case most places are selling it for the full RRP. This means that when released we will be paying double the price for a year old game that has a sequal due for release, nice one EA you really know how to pi$$ your customers off.I agree totally with AnimaOnline.
Just another thought least we have not gone and bought RB, I would be even more pi$$ed if I had just paid all that money for the 360 version and then I read this!!!!! 1 silver lining I suppose.
Guitar Hero 4 is the way to go!!!!!
