Rumor: 'PS3 Slim' photos leaked

A Japanese blog has posted what appear to be images of a 'PS3 Slim' (a PS3 hardware redesign). From the look of the pictures, the machine already appears to be in production.

Sony recently denied plans to release new PS3 hardware. "We currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3,” stated a Sony U.K. representative.

We were hesitant to report this as we have a few reasons to doubt the validity of these pictures, but after enough tips flooded our inbox we felt compelled to share it. Whether this ends up as fact or fiction, we've posted the pictures below.

    Looks horrible and cheap like it would fall apart if you tried to move it.  No thank you (if it is legit).

    looks more like ps2 slim but oh well. i am sure this is not the PS3 Slim cuz Sony has new tech to store in a redsign PS3 when it comes out.. same when PS2 slim came out and had a Ethernet port and all.. with PS3 Slim coming in da future.. who knows perhaps BD RW or TV turner or whatever might be in stored.. but this.. lol.. its a nice try but I'd be damned if its gonna be the real thing..

     Is it already assembled in the pics?  I can't figure this thing out. I doubt it's real, but if it is I'm not too upset because I'd take my 60g over this thing anyway...

    Looks like as if a bus has ran over the current PS3s and just called it a new slim design. That way the price will drop too.

    This is definitely fake. No PS logo near the drive like every other PS in existence, no TM near the PlayStation 3 brand on the box. Terrible attempt at a fake, ugly as phuck too.

     yeah thats FUGLY but i doubt they would be doing this unless there gonna price cut one of them and since slimming things tends to push prices up i highly doubt ps3 would do sumthing so moronic and if so they deserve there 1.1bil loss of profit

    Actually, the most convincing shot is the packaging one that came last.

    1)  It's not assembled, people.  It's just a housing shot of the upper half, then lower half.

    2)  It's proabably true since (contrary to mis-information) Sony has been able to make the PS3 faster and cheaper for several months now.

    3)  It's still proabably years away, as my guess is that this "slim" model finally represents the PS3 model that gets the coveted price drop.

    4)  The current PS3 is already ugly, remember?  That's what you all said when you first saw it (or did you just balk at the the price tag and THAT made it ugly?lol)

    just attach a fold down screen keypad/mouse and a battery so i can play ps3 in the car and use it as a linux laptop and you got a deal (obviously I'd keep my original to use in the house.)

    It looks fake to me, like some industrious con man with a computer and photoshop made the box art, and some other guy made a fake 'console' to put in the box, so they could sell it on street corners and sucker stupid people.

    I don't think Sony would make a slim PS3. You have so much hardware inside the PS3 and it would probably heat up too much if it was that small inside.

    It looks fake. When I repaced the PS2 with the PS3 and they were side-by-side, I was amazed how much better the PS3 looked. This, however, looks no cooler than the PS2. Sony wouldn't make their new machine ugly.

    the slims always look ugly and cheap,i like my big 60 gig ps3,i still have my original ps2 and my original gray ps1 and both work like the day i bought them,originals are always the best

    why are we even talking about this, its obviously fake, the PS3 lettering is not going to be smooth cornered like that, and they arent changing the finish from sleek to matte. and another thing, the box is just flatout lame

     this will surely to those who like a price cut on the machine.....the cover looks like ps2 material and to compete with msoft ...... 

     

    i would rather keep my elegant ps3 than downgrade to cheaper version... hope its true.. then sony will have more market share and to compete with msoft then can pay more then msoft to get more exclusive..... hoho...

     Just a prototype I bet. It does look cheap for sure. True or not, ps1 and ps2 got a slim version at some point so its a no brainer that the ps3 slim is coming. I guess well see it at E3 2010, not this year. This year will be a price cut for sure, expect people to finally understand whats the value of the ps3 and sales will go up.

    The ps3 is so big now I don't see how they could slim it down THAT much. not only that it looks like sh!t
