SCEA responds to GTA IV issues

Rockstar's customer support has given no time frame on when an expected patch can be made available to correct the current freezing issue on GTA IV, however, PlayStation 3 owners can be assured that SCEA are helping in correcting the situation. Though Sony's customer support has received a very limited amount of calls in regards to the problem, they're doing everything they can to ensure that their users can enjoy GTA IV to its fullest extent.
"Yes, we are aware of what the message boards and a few of the industry blogs are saying about a 'freezing' issue with GTA IV on a limited number of PS3s. Although we have seen an extremely low volume of contacts to our customer service department regarding such an issue, we want to ensure that every consumer has a great experience on our console and with GTA IV. All parties involved are working to isolate the problem for those few units and identify a solution."
Though the problem is limited as Sony has said, we hope the issue is fixed as soon as possible so you users out there having a problem can get to enjoy the greatness that is GTA IV.

I'm not getting this game, but I'm curious (and I care...YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT, I CARE...I SAID IT!!). Are any of you guys having this problem? I asked ppl in my friends list. They are not. I just want to see how "limited" this is.

I've only had the game completely freeze on me twice. One time it froze for about 10 seconds and went back to running smoothly. Its not a huge issue, thanks to the auto save, but it is annoying when it happens.
And Odium, you are really missing out on a great game.

I have not had any major issues with the game. It did freeze up on me once so far where I had to turn off the console but it's not like that hasn't happened with other games in the past. I have noticed quite a few graphical glitches like a couple of buildings flickering. It doesn't happen much but it's distracting and hopefully a patch will take care of these issues.

I'm having these issues. 60GB, purchased July '07, built March '07. I can't play the game at all. It freezes during the opening cutscene every time, and if I skip it, it freezes as soon as the game loads. It may be "limited" but the severity is nothing to scoff at. I have a $60 coaster right now.
Pretty rediculous.

I assume they mean short freezes? It occasionally freezes for about a second, sometimes two and then continues. It's not the worst thing in the world, but still, you'd think they would have done enough testing to catch that. I'm glad to see that they've been quick to at least acknowledge the issue so that they can get a patch released as soon as possible. They keep stressing the fact that not a lot of people have called, so I guess I'll call. If you experience this, I encourage you to call as well so they'll patch it faster.

I have a UK 60GB launch model PS3. I've been playing this game pretty much constantly for the last 3 days, and it hasn't frozen once. Obviously I have no idea what the cause is, but it would seem to be both rare and random.
Hopefully they'll find a cause and solution soon. The game is awesome, and I genuinely feel for those few people that are having problems.

I am not having this issue on my launch PS3. I have swapped out my original HD for a larger one. I don't know if that makes a difference.

I'm glad to see that some of the previous people that posted with GTA4 and a 60GB PS3 aren't having problems because I have a launch 60GB PS3 and I'm getting GTA4 tommorrow. I hope that my PS3 doesn't have the freezing issues.
It's good to see that Sony has taken quick action with Rockstar though.

This is part of the reason I bought the 360 version. This happens too much in multiplatform games on the PS3, it's usually an inferior version. Also the downloadable content and better online swayed me. I'm getting tired of the PS3 now, it's taking too long to get good, I'm gonna have to sell it if MGS sucks. Oh and I can probably make more a profit on it since it's a 60GB original. SORT OUT YOUR ACT SONY.
Edit: Wait I can't sell it, I love Blu-Ray movies too much =] -

I had the problem initially. So, I did what Take Two recommended. I deleted my save file, and deleted my install, then reinstalled it. It works superbly now. Luckily, the freeze happened right away for me. For the record, I have a 60GB PS3 that came out at launch.

PS3 is not causing the freezing, it's the game . If you had these problem just go and exchange your game and stop complaining to sony . It's rock star fault because they port this sh!!!t from 360. If they made this game 4 PS3 in the first place this sh!!t won't happen. If you don't like it don't buy it...........

from the looks of what everyone is saying, that by deleting and reinstalling the save data and install of the game, it would have to just be a problem with the original installation of the game on the hdd, (which is why the 360 doesnt have any of these problems) and is just completely random. idk mine is working perfectly and i have a launch 60GB and gta since the day it came out.

I couldn't tell you if my freezes because I can't afford it right now.

LA Noire no longer our exclusive. It's going to the 360 now. I hope Sony decided to change the exclusivity for LA Noire to future GTAs.

I've had minimun problems, like, one night I had a couple of frame-rate problems. But I think the fact that I was playing it for 4hours straight may have caused it. I would like a patch to fix the servers. I want to try out the Online mode.

I had the freezing issues for about the first hour of playing, then I tried the uninstall data trick and the freezing became a little less frequent, then finally I tried uninstalling some other data from my harddrive, and the game hasn't frozen since. I don't know if that actually helped or not, but the game works fine now :>
