Sixaxis to be discontinued

The Sixaxis controller seems to have finally overstayed its welcome as it appears the controller will be discontinued with the release of the DualShock 3. It won’t come as a surprise to most of us that Sony will decide to no longer manufacture this product in light of the mass production of their new rumble-enhanced version that is set to release in North America shortly.

A Sony representative shared the following:

“Sixaxis will no longer be offered after it’s completely sold through at retail (likely by the summer timeframe).”

Once the DualShock 3 becomes the standard, we could assume that the Sixaxis would then become a really cheap alternative in order to add a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th controller to your setup. Chances are as gamers replace theirs with the DS3, you’ll likely be able to find the old and tired Sixaxis available on eBay for a bargain price.
