Slim PS3 on the way?

T3.com has reported that they have received insider knowledge about a new, slim PS3 that may be in the works. Included in their report are some mock up images of what the system may look like.
According to the rumor, the new systems will be slimmer, as well as quite a bit lighter, which are the only two seemingly noticeable differences. System specs would remain the same, with the possibility of a larger hard drive. T3 believes that a 160GB model could very likely be the first slim-line PS3 to hit the market.
While all of this sounds exciting and possible, there has been no confirmation from Sony on any of these rumors, and are just that, rumors. As soon as we know, you'll know, so be sure to check back.

if it does come out they will be selling it at the ps2 price when it was at launch but, probably a little more. isn't it lame that we're relying on stupid info like this just to give us something to do? i've noticed there has been no game information on attack of the show or x-play.

wow... judging from the totally fake news and pictures, i would have to say that yeah, there doesn't seem to be ANY room at all in the ps3 for anything and it would probably make it more flimsy?? anyways, if they do come out with this, 160gb and a ds3 i will be soo frikin pissed... :(

Yeah, and I'm Santa Claus. Like Encryptioncsta, there is no room for to fit everything thing that the current PS3 has (fan, motherboard with ran sticks, etc). What a waste of 20 seconds of my life that was reading the article and looking at the pictures...

No, the fact of having the power brick wasn't the problem. It was the fact it was HUGE and overheated, burning peoples carpets and crap.
I think it's interesting but I think it's too early for the Slim to be released. Sony still needs to make a slim (laptop sized) blu-ray drive, and a few other things need to be addressed before they can slim the console down. But it's completely reasonable for them to slim it down. Though I don't think it would look like that. It's too Wii like, and the CD Slot is in a weird position. -

Hey...you never know...but why would they do that? I dont mind the slim idea...but putting a bigger hard drive this early on is kind of a bad idea...when you can keep the 80 gig with the newers chips and all and have a cheaper system at 450 or even 400 dollars. The Main thing Sony needs to focus on right now is moving their systems at a lower price point and not worrying too far off into the future. Besides we all can just swap out the hard drives anyways.

nothing like this will surface for at least 5 years. It will be the cheaper to manufacture and distribute solution for people who dont already have a PS3, just like what happened with the PS2, a revamp to boost interest. funny, it looks pretty feasable mind some exceptions.

The pictures R pathetic. But as much as I'd hate to say it I believe it. Yeah it took the PS2 Forever but 1 : the PS1 had a makeover at the same time and 2 : There is smaller sticks of ram (stuff hidden from the ppl) and they did just dnwnsize the blu-ray lazer. and they can move stuff around. Teck is getting smaller faster than the PS2 age

It really does look like a Wii but with a PS3 faceplate. Doesnt look too bad, but I like the way the monster looks right now.

BS. It took 6 or 7 years for sony to figure out a way to make the slim ps2. One year isnt long enough to figure it out yet. Maybe in a couple of years..

Slim model playstations start in the design phase very easrly, It's not like they say one week they're going to make a slim system and then release it. the slim PSP was in development for atleast 2 years before it actually came out. That they're working on it means nothing more than that they system's development continues as other before it have. I look forward to the new design... probably sometime in 2010.

who cares, who needs a slim ps3 the only difference in all of the ps3s is the hard disk drive and how much space it has example............20 GB 60 GB 120 GB 160GB
well there r a few more differences between them all but i guess it depend on how much u download offline like me iv only got 2 demos on my ps3 and iv got a 60 gig and ive got a lot of space left over. whenever i need it for ill just go and buy and extra hdd if i have 2 no but i dont think ill have to for quite some time if i ever have 2 i would have gotten one with more space but i got one when they first come out well actually to be honest it was like 5 or 6 months after they came out cause there were not any stors that had them

To make this possible sony will have to redesign the motherboard to consume electricity the cell processors will need a shrink from 65mn to 45nm to reduce heat, size and electricity consumption same goues for the RSX from 90nm to 45nm. so sony can shrink the built in power supply unit but a concequence of that it will lose power and efficiency also they will need to redesign the cooling system and shrink the bluray drive.
But sony won't be doing this anytime soon maybe when it starts to get a bit old 3-4 years
