Sony excited about new holiday campaign

With the launch of the $399 40GB PlayStation 3 in North America, Sony is projected to have a good holiday season with a potential turning point for the PS3 in terms of popularity and sales.

The new holiday campaign which recently kicked off takes a different approach from the previous campaigns that focused on power rather than other aspects. The new wave of ads shows off the PS3 the way it was meant to be shown with mention of Blu-ray, PSN and Home.

Peter Dille, Vice President and Marketing for SCEA had this to say in conjunction with the new campaign:

"... we wanted to move beyond the 'power' message with a more high-energy, entertainment driven focus for the PS3. The games are here, the price point is now $399 and we wanted to make the news loud and clear. But we need to deliver that in a way that befits the PlayStation brand," Dille said. "And so, beyond the brilliant HD games that the PS3 delivers, you'll also see a big focus behind the PS3's Blu-ray movie capability and, for the first time, you'll see a major focus behind the PlayStation Network (did I mention online gaming is free on PS3??) and the exclusive gaming content available on the PlayStation Store, as well as breakthrough services like Home."

Dille later pointed out that since the price drop of the 80GB PS3 to $499, the MotorStorm-bundled PS3 has shown great success in the market. He also mentioned that in addition to the two current television ads, more will come in the near future.

It does look like Sony is very confident and pleased with the current marketing of the PlayStation 3. Many would cite that Sony is a year behind, as this should have been their first concept back in November 2006 when the PS3 was released instead of the abstract “Crying Baby” ads. Either way, that is the past and it seems as if Sony is learning and is dedicated to make sure the broader market gets the message that the PlayStation 3 is here and ready to compete.

The PS3 ad actually made me want to buy another PS3. I already got 2 (one for me, one for my sister). I will be buying one for my brother this X-mas (40gb). Also because of the new price drop, my uncles wife is going to buy her son a new PS3.

This is really going to push up the sales quite a bit.. I'm excited too. And in fact, the most people know it has a Blu-ray player, but the mainstream consumers really don't. And that's why Sony is making these ads.

Very good outlook for Sony this holiday, they made a couple wrong moves but overall there were many that were right.

I only wish Sony had made it clear with some kind of stamp or something in their commercial that the PSN was free.

Sony can have the coolest adds around and lower the price until it's dirt cheap, but that doesn't change one fact... it's all about the games! Right now the best games are on the 360, and the hits keep coming!!

XB2B1 do not start flame baiting... That  logic is getting very old. Let's see you have WarHawk, Motorstorm, Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted comes out this month. What does Xbox have right now?? Halo 3?? Gears?? that it off the top of my head. MS's time has come and gone. This the beginning of the return of the KING which is SONY.

I don't think Sony ever went wrong in the first place. But now I think they're going perfect instead of good. I almost  exploded in my pants when I saw that new 1 min commericial they came out with.

XB2B1, the only thing xbox360 has is halo and it's on the last installment. ps3 has more exclusives than xbox360, there no question it will bounce back in top

@xb2b1... ok you got halo 2.5 (check out the escapists video review for an honest yet humorous opinion of that game) bioshock (good but on pc too) but after massive defect you have nothing. you don't have to hate on the ps3 just because other xbots do it.

Sony, You have finaly hit gold. With the new ads This year should be the turning piont! I have seen some of the ads and I am very impressed indeed! Here is to a good holiday sesion for Sony! Halo Sucks (all of the halo games)! Thats all that xbox 360 has and it sucks. I go to school with a bunch of morons! I say that becuase thay where saying that halo IS the best game ever and that they can't wait for halo 4 and the movie! I told them they if they were smart they would relize that the xbox 360 is cheap along with its games! They replyed with a " Well, They came out with a life size master cheif" and I said " Yea and your going to buy it and marrie it and make out with it"!  LOL

Excuse me... NOTHING after Mass Effect?!? I don't exactly call Alan Wake, Fable 2, Halo Wars and Too Human nothing!! Not even mentioning many many other titles. Even the multi-platform games run and look better on the 360 (Madden anyone?) Even the Xbox Live Arcade games... Switchball is an awesome game! Not hating on the PS3, just a fan of good games!
