Sony listed twice on PR blunder list

Posted on December 18th, 2007 at 06:46 EDT

Purveyors of PS3s and Electronic goods, Sony, has been listed on the 101 Dumbest Moments in Business 2007...twice.

The list by Fortune magazine is published yearly, and this year details two Sony 'blunders' in the marketing department. First up at 61 is the infamous God of War II event held in Greece. You know...the one with the goat. Okay, you can see where they were coming from with that...all Ancient Greek and stuff...but slaughtering a live goat in 2007? Not happening, mate.

Secondly at 63 is the 'controversy' over Resistance having an old fashioned Mexican stand off (with no Mexicans) in Manchester cathedral. This offended Bishop Nigel McCulloch, especially as Sony didn't obtain permission to use said cathedral. Even though Insomniac Games made it. Either way, it was hardly a PR blunder...PS3 sales were not affected at the time and they're only going up now.

Stay tuned.

From Kotaku, "During a release party for God of War II in Athens, attendees were invited to reach into the head-hanging-on-by-a-thread goat and eat still-warm intestines (as it turns out, the offal was procured elsewhere and stuffed inside of the goat)."

Wow. Gotta wonder who thought that would be a good move...

Re: Manchester Cathedral? Calling that a Sony blunder is just too damn silly, but I think we all get that lol

I'd strongly advise psu to remove this article. Resistance was made by insomniac not Sony. The goat incident also had nowt to do with Sony. You have been warned...

Sorry but as we've already discussed in the forums yesterday, The manchester catheral thing is already widely accepted as being a political attempt to grab attention/extortion attempt, not a true mistake and thus is negated.

apparently some of you guys don't remember the goat thing.......

THEY DID NOT KILL THE GOAT!!! (it was already dead :) )

I agree with that God of War II event. Thats just disgusting.

The church thing seems less a blunder to me though.

Why the RRoD isn't on there is confusing.

I really dont see how killing a goat is funny in anyway but since they ate it its not that bad because its not like the goat was not going to be slaughtered and eaten anyway someday, I just hope they did it in a humane way. As for the church thing It really was not Sonys fault but they were blamed for it. But I dont see how a bad buisness list is stupid it find it funny and I think alot if you posters dident ever read the Article.

the goat thing was def. a dumb move, but I hardly agree with the Manchester thing being a blunder. if anything it increased sales of the game and made the priest look dumb.

If at least they did a stew with a goat then i don't mind :P, but seriously, where the F*** did this edttor come from??? maybe from bill gatesanus, i'd put my money on it, i would call paying 50million for extra content on a videogame the dumbest moment in business in all of the human race's existence, but well, it's a matter of perpesctive and the editor probably has is head stuck is bg's ar§e so he doesn't see the picture that well....
