Sony Computer Entertainment UK has responded to claims that Gran Turismo 5 will be released at Christmas 2009, stating that it is unable to confirm a release date for the hotly anticipated racer.

Speaking to Videogamer.com, a spokesperson for the company commented, "Polyphony are working on GT5, but we cannot confirm a launch date at this point in time.”

The alleged released date broke following comments from the platform holder’s Southern European Chief Executive, James Armstrong, who told Spanish newspaper El Financiero that the game would hit European shores late next year.

Keep those eyes peeled for more updates as they break.

GT4 was such as great game, so hopefully GT5 will be the real thing and not like what GT3 was to PS2.

PD does not know when it is ready and sony wont make a mistake and set a deadline which leads to bugs etc.

"- however it remains a more distant possiblity, he added as all 120 of Polyphony's employees are tied up making GT5, the final version of which might not be out until after 2009, he confessed.?"

"In a July 2008 interview with IGN, Yamauchi mentioned that at the moment, Polyphony Digital is focused on updates for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and that Gran Turismo 5 may not be released until 2010."

I don't know. I would rather listn to the dev on this one. You will only have yourdelf to blame if your hopes get crushed.

They might as well release it as a launch title for the PS4 cos that would give them time to make it better and if they made a bundle with it they would make tons of money.

Top selling franchise in the WORLD.  They don't have to worry about sales.  This "gearhead" franchise has a fanbase different than every other IP.

Do they realize how many new cars will be created by the end of 2009?  I think they are making it harder on themselves.  For example, last year there was no 2010 Mustang or 370Z, are those cars going to be in the game?  By taking so long, hopefully they'll be able to squeeze every car in for $60, instead of the other racing games that keep offering additional pricey DLC that should've been included in the $60 price.  Maybe the Home application can include a garage for our GT5 cars....

yea i dont want ANY delays like previous GTs. just take your time, and get it right. also, the driving physics better be completely revamped because GT5P's physics SUCKED. i would have taken GT4 physics anyday.

yeah, it's ok for them to take time on a great racing game like Gran Turismo, i don't  think there should be no cheats, does anyone else agree? but, it can be fun having more money than you need to build your car.  but, still going to love this game because of the ferraris'

My only concern is that they need to fix the online play on this game. Right now in gt5p the online mode sucks. Too many cars always bumping you off road. They need to make it so that cars always go through each other with no contact at all. Or have a stricter and more often contact penalty.

I know GT5 Prologue was just a taste. And I haven't played GT since GT2.

Do they still have full car customization in there so you can build your car up to use it in higher classes like the old school GT? I was disappointed not seeing that in GT5 Prologue.

I don't mind if they delay it as long as they make it beautiful and fun and add enough content to put it on a 400GB BLU-RAY DISC!!!

@punisher99 "rubn is racin" ? lol jk i think it sucks too when you lead the whole race only for some jack off to spin you out in the final corner. but i have a good tip in say a 650pp race tune your car to only 648-649pp and you will start in 1st usually. then provided your good enough you can win the race. feel free to add me if you wanna race guys. me and my friends pick a track then join at every 15 minutes past the hour and were all there at the same time. i think polyphony should just take there time with this one.

@midas78 I dont think you have to worry about cars not getting in the game. it seams like a simple task for polyphony to add them later for free like the ferrari cali lotus evora or the citroen shat mobile.

@#23 The only problem with that is I'm a big fan of exotic supercars. With that said, if anyone from polyphony digital is reading this article and my post, Please add the Saleen S7, the Ford GTX1, and the chevy corvette ZR1 to GT5p soon.
